So excluding stuff like The Shawshank Redemption (1994), The Green Mile (1999) and
Stand by Me (1986). Just strictly horror. I found it difficult to restrict it to just five but here is what makes my top five:

Storm of the Century (1999 Mini-Series)
Pet Sematary (1989)
The Dark Half (1993)
The Shining (1980)
It (1990 Mini-Series)

There were a lot that missed the cut for me, especially The Dead Zone (1983) but it can't be helped. What sbout you? What are your Top 5 Stephen King horror adaptations?

*edit* just looked through King movies here on TE n i rated Thinner, Quicksilver Highway, The Mist, Cujo & the others mentioned in the reply below a 4 same as Pet Sem so any of them could be in. you're right, there's too many good adaptations for a top 5!

just went for 5 straight off the top of my head, otherwise coulda been internally debating the 4th n 5th spot for hours - on another day could be Dead Zone, Cat's Eye, Carrie (De Palma), Creepshow, Maximum Overdrive etc etc

not seen Storm of the Century yet, mrs foz has a box set of a few of the TV series which she loves. it has The Stand, Golden Years, Langoliers and... another one, might be Shining. will look out for SotC should make a good gift.

I have seen Salem's Lot, tho not for many years, shoulda known you'd enjoy the vamp one! Night Flyer is ok too.

C2 is good, esp the raft segment. ive not seen C3 but hear it's pretty bad, dunno if it's still based on King's work.

Langoliers has Dean Stockwell, i shoulda had him in Johan's post about watching films with certain actors in!

true, a more faithful adap would be good, but as a popcorn action flick TRM ticks all the boxes, could watch it anyday.

since we're on the subject, a few weeks ago there was talk of films similar to Bachman/King's The Long Walk. i mentioned The Human Race (2013) which i hadn't seen at the time, but saw it earlier this week. Whilst it shares some similarities with Long Walk, it is not an adaptation - the premise is more vague and not political, the participants are not kids to be culled for any reason, just a seemingly random disparate group who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. i wouldn't necassarily rec, but isn't a bad shout to save for Nov as a relatively tolerable Turkey. Plus there's a dude with one leg who's pretty badass!
