What a marvellous film!

'Paris, Texas' is a slow, subtle, dark and moody film that deals with love, forgiveness and redemption. It starts off with some stunning desert images where a Harry Dean Stanton wanders around until he is found by his brother. The enigmatic soundtrack stays in tune with the situations. The cinematography adds a spacious but lonely feel.

The ending is incredibly moving - one of the most emotional passages in any movie I've ever seen. The speech lasts nearly ten minutes! It lingers with you long after the credits roll.

Great movie. I finally watched it earlier this year after intending to since before Stanton's death. The whole movie covers a wide range of emotions, but that ending especially does indeed stick with you.

The minute he says... "I knew these people.."

I didn't know he was dead. He was in a lot of good films:

In a career that spanned more than six decades, Stanton played supporting roles in the films Cool Hand Luke (1967), Kelly's Heroes (1970), Dillinger (1973), The Godfather Part II (1974), Alien (1979), Escape from New York (1981), Christine (1983), Repo Man (1984), Pretty in Pink (1986), The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), Wild at Heart (1990), The Straight Story (1999), The Green Mile (1999), Alpha Dog (2006) and Inland Empire (2006).

wow!

Yeah, I'm a big fan of several of those movies. He also starred in Lucky (2017). I believe you'd like that one. It's a character study like Paris, Texas, though not nearly as emotional.
