I would say it belongs to the same subgenre as The Hills Have Eyes, Hunter's Blood, Just Before Dawn, and Slaughterhouse. It predates all of those and I'd say it, along with the earlier Deliverance, more or less started the backwoods inbred cannibal subgenre.
