Not much happens in this flick until the end, but it manages to maintain a nicely eerie atmosphere in any event.

For anyone who doesn't know: One Dark Night stars Meg Tilly, fresh off Psycho II, playing Julie, a timid high schooler who wants to join "The Sisters," a clique of bitchy popular girls, in order to shed her good girl image.

The Sisters have one final initiation for her: spend the night in the creepy local mausoleum. K, easy enough. Except in true '80s movie fashion, these girls have no intention of letting Julie join and only wanna scare the ever living shit out of her.

Hijinx ensue, but then the recently-deceased maniac Karl Raymar, who has telekinetic powers and just so happens to reside in the very same mausoleum Julie spends the night in (oh no!) wants one last posthumous rendezvous..

I love this movie. I have major personal attachment to it, having been one of the first horror movies I ever saw, maybe even thee first. The interior of the mausoleum looks fantastic; there's some great imagery to be had here. And of course, the highlight of One Dark Night, are the reanimated corpses Karl Raymar uses to frighten his victims to death and man are they some wonderfully icky, rotten sumbitches.

A fun little sleeper I think. Thoughts?

I have not seen this, but you're making me want to. I will have to check this out. Your description of the mausoleum made me think of the church basement scenes in Children of the Night (1991). The movie is not always great, but some cool things about it are the church, the flooded church basement and the effects that go with it, and the way the vampires breathe when they are sleeping the sleep of the undead. (Ew).

PS Youtube seems to think One Dark Night was released in 1982.

PSS Here, if you just watch the last couple minutes of this clip (which is the worst quality video clip on all of Youtube, so, sorry about that) you can (sort of) see the part of Children of the Night in the church and its flooded basement.

Yeah, I got a little carried away there. emoticon

Children of the Night is not a fantastic movie, but it does have a few redeeming scenes. The church and church basement scenes are probably quite beautiful on blu ray, or in any high quality format. (It might be available on Laserdisc, God help us). And the way the vamps breathe is both disgusting and innovative, soooo that's good.

PSSSSSSSSSSSSSS the plot of the mean girls doing a fake initiation just to mess with a girl they don't like makes me think of The Grudge 2. Also... what the hell was that movie called... Sorority Row. Actually, not exactly that, but... sort of similar I guess.
