ok if enough people are interested this could be fun and maybe hopefully stimulate some TE activity, which i for one have been guilty of neglecting recently.

stole this from someone else, basically everyone involved chooses a film for someone else to watch within a timescale. who recs whom is decided randomly by a free online 'wheel of choice*' app (or something, i dont dallt the kids these days) ideally a film that person hasnt seen before, but you think theyd like. you can check here on TE from someones ratings what thier taste is, or which films they havent seen. or check imdb, letterboxd, etc etc

for this example names here taken randomly from front page of TE at time of typing (ie - please dont moan if i dint include you in the example. but please still join in.) right, heres goes

Znep, Messiah, Onyx, Ballz, Atomic & Marcus are all in roulette.

first spin is Onyx, next Ballz = Onyx would choose a film for Ballz to watch.
next Znep = Ballz would choose a film for znep to watch.
and so on and so forth until last person would rec first out. eg Marcus rec Onyx.

then we have a week to watch the film & give a little feedback to the person who recd here on TE, from a simple 'thats great' or 'fkin dire' or a longer comment on what you liked or didnt about your rec.

it could be cool to share your favourite films with others, influence, or just stick to horror as most of us love that genre.

totally open to timescales of watching as know some are busier than others. we could help with torrent/stream links, or stick to easily accessible movies, whatever. all suggestions welcome to improve this idea

any thoughts? apart from i shoulda added images to this massive boring block of text?

oh yeah * = the dude i stole this off rabb.its the wheelspin live so if folk want to verify the randomness of the wheel it all valid. its either fun to see who you get, or massive paranoia that the spins fixed.

who cares, i just like the idea of us lot recommending each other unseen gems, which is basically what we do, but this gives a bit more impetus to actually get around to watching them, and some interaction.

I like the idea, but I'm a bit confused about it. I think I can watch other people's replies and hopefully understand it, but I like that it might force people to rate shit on here as means of getting your preferences sorted out.

I'll try anything though, if others want to join. I think if someone joins, maybe they can specify what their options are for viewing. Myself for example, I have access to youtube, hulu, and netflix. So my recommendations are limited to my means of watching. Hopefully, I'll get a new kodi box soon, and then I can watch most anything again, but I'm kinda limited as of now. Just a thought. If it's a movie that could be found in stores, I'm not against buying stuff. I just haven't been buying stuff.

theres no obligation to rate, realise some dont on here, more a guide to choosing a film for someone. most of us here have a fair idea of each other tastes so it shouldnt be a problem. maybe have to check if someone had seen the film before i suppose. will think on it.

streaming site friendly recs are a great idea, again most of us will have access to at least one. this is evolving project an input gladly received. im not against buying stuff either rarely have ÂŖ sadly so torrents n streams it is for now

I'd join in.

When it comes to access to movies, I have Kodi on my computer and can download movies through it. I understand if not everyone wants to use Kodi because of the legal issues surrounding it and it's also not the easiest program to get up and running if you're new to it. However, I wouldn't mind taking movies off of there and putting them on Google Drive for someone if they can't find a movie rec'd to them. I've tried that with a few people on here now and it's worked so far.

It's not a be all, end all solution (couldn't find Mother's Day (1980) on there yesterday), but it might be useful at some point.

I found Mother's Day on youtube. High quality version, too.

Kodi is a bit of a mess for noobs. It took me a year to realize what it was, and now that I don't have one, my life has a gigantic void in it. @der is going to get us a new box soon. He also wants to get a VPN for it, which might not be necessary, but what do I know? Thoughts on that?

That's where I ended up watching it too. The channel had a lot of Troma movies, wondered if it's something officially connected to them.

I never use a VPN with Kodi. Maybe it's foolish and will bite me in the ass one day, but I've had no problems so far. Still using the same internet service that gave me warnings about torrents too. I think with Kodi, because you aren't sharing what you're watching, only streaming, there's currently nothing that can really be done as far as bringing users to court goes.

I have Kodi as well even though I still find myself downloading movies from youtube, wipfilms, rarelust, dailymotion etc if they are available there. Even if there are torrents available I do still go for that. I just find it handier to have a file directly on disk even though after a while I know I will need to delete stuff I won't watch any more to have room for new stuff.
Too bad veehd will eventually die (they are still around but when I couldn't download any more I stopped checking the site) they had a lot of rare stuff in pretty good quality.

I download from YouTube too. More out of fear of what I want to watch getting deleted from the site before I have time for it than convenience. I don't mess with torrents much these days, but once in a while I'll still find a torrent that isn't on Kodi or YouTube.

Going to check out Wipfilms and Rarelust, I've never heard of them before.

I have been using Wipfilms and rarelust for years. It was by googling for downloads that I eventually found those. They have a lot of erotic and porn movies too, especially wip (standing for women in prison). Their movies tend to be of better quality than the regular downloads, bigger files so takes longer to download. Rarelust has no download limit but there is a waiting time between the downloads. Wipfilms has no waiting time but I believe a limit of 3 or 5 GB a day unless you buy credits.

I like the idea even though the hard part is probably going to be what to rec if you are not familiar with the other one's tastes. Of course that's also a nice challenge even though some have seen so many movies already.

early tweaks/suggestions are -

Easily accessible choices. can still be obscure, theres plenty on the TE Theater v2.0

Peoples taste/if theyve seen a film. if the person you get in roulette you are not familiar with, anbd they dont rate here, imdb or any other filmy websites, you could always ask them.

if enough are interested we can swap, spin again, whatever. all 'rules' are loose at the mo.

as the timescale to watch would be at least a week, people can reply in the roulette thread with recs. if youve seen it before say so and another pick can be made.

we could do an experimental test run of wheel spin thing, like practice, ahead of time. its always easier to understand when you see something, rather than my inept attempt at explanation

In the roulette thread, I'm guessing everyone participating would make a spot, much like on the challenges. When it comes to people's tastes, it wouldn't have to be a requirement, but perhaps it could be encouraged that when making a spot, people give a brief description of their tastes and link any kind of rating/watch lists that they might have.

For me, it'd be something like, "I enjoy slashers, zombies, and Maximum Overdrive." Just something brief, nothing in depth. Then link my ratings on this site and Letterboxd. Like I said, it wouldn't have to be a requirement. It could do a lot to make the recommendation process easier though without getting a bunch of "seen that" or questions about their tastes.

good idea about the spots n desc & links - letterboxd accs is the main way people choose recs in the roulette community i stole this idea from. you can see if they've seen before, have an idea of taste, and if they have a watchlist thats ready made suggestions.

we could then reply to each others 'spot' in the thread with whatever feedback on the movie, and just create a brand new thread each week/fortnight/month. there's bound to be diff numbers of participants each time too so new threads makes sense

""I enjoy slashers, zombies, and Maximum Overdrive."" haha is that your lbxd bio?

emoticon It's not my bio, but it'd be a good one.

And I agree about making a new thread per round. If you kept using the same one, it'd also probably quickly become cluttered.
