Far out, man!!

Sorry! That was John Denver's favorite expression. He literally used it the whole time. Coincidentally, I recently watched his biopic - Take Me Home: The John Denver Story (TV Movie 2000). So you many be on to something there!

What a wonderful voice!! So many good tunes. Annie's Song, Take Me Home, Country Roads, Rocky Mountain High, Leaving On A Jet Plane, and Calypso are among my favorites of his. He was just too pure for this world.

FYI, I am watching another biopic of a tremendous singing voice, in Karen Carpenter - The Karen Carpenter Story (1989). Great biopic, but very tragic.

You should check out Todd Haynes' film, Superstar. He tells Karen's story using Barbie dolls. It's an awesome film.

I've had a John Denver CD playing in my car the last few days - my son loves it. He's usually more into "rocking out" so this has been a surprise but he's still growing (he is only three).

I heard about that one, but I have never seen it. Apparently, Richard Carpenter sued Haynes over it. I believe it started because Todd Haynes insinuates that Richard Carpenter is gay. I will watch it today.

There was also a controversy with Mattel over the use of Barbie dolls and that Haynes used the Carpenters music without paying for it. Amazing that the film is available on YT.

i've seen a doc about the Carpenters, was more about the siblings from childhood than jut Karen, can't remember what it was called. but yeah, a shame. music stardom seems to lend itself to early self combustion

I think that may have been Close to You: Remembering the Carpenters (1997).

Yes, definitely, I would like to know how many would be alive today if it were not for their fame. I would say a good few.

As you have noticed, I have been turning Japanesa with my viewings this month. So you can imagine what a surprise it was when the anime, Whisper of the Heart, began with a version of Take Me Home, Country Roads sung in Japanese. I think it morphed into an olivia Newton John cover of the song.
