There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the TrashEpics SciFi/Fantasy Challenge...

Blasting off with an opening day just shy of 10 hours, Onyx flew into the lead and hasn't looked back since. A solid combo of classic movies and TZ eps sees her top of the dark tower at this early stage. The chasing pack is led by TV addicts Troma (Dark Shadows) & Ballz (Twilight Zone). beatnik's turning Japanese (at least I think so) to help him lie just shy of third.

Less than 1000 points seperate the mid table mediocrity, from foz in fifth down to zed in 12th. Gym started his challenge before anyone, having clocked up 2 movies first thing on the 1st Sept. Sadly for him it also appears to be the end of the challenge. Special mitigations for special peoples sees Smerd handed a hefty one point bonus by the authorities as an incentive to join in late.

Longest movie - LOTR The Return of the King 201min (Onyx)
Shortest- numerous 1 min shorts (Johan)
Trending Popular - Twilight Zone, Dune, The Dark Crystal, Rick & Morty, Fire and Ice, Godzilla & Alien franchises.

2. Troma - 2220
3. Ballz - 1791
4. beatnik - 1722

image Don't worry if you've seen more but not updated your progress post, they'll just get added to the next challenge update. Which I'm gonna try to make more interesting, meant to do this yesterday but ended up drinking all night so now i'm hungover and lack inspiration.

Thanks for the update, Foz! I have a bit of a headache myself this morning... sad to say that drinking like 3 glasses of wine at dinner last night is what gave it to me. I hope yours was better earned than mine! :P

Plonk?
It was mid-shelf, if that's what you mean. emoticon
I went to a Southeastern Asian restaraunt with a few people and it was BYOB, so I brought a Portuguese table wine, which was actually pretty good despite being only US $10.00 (lots of Port. immigrants in the area I live in, so some good & affordable wine and food as a result).

No football for me, but I may watch another Star Trek ep... and the sexy first officer, therein. emoticon

I seen a few more. I will add them tomorrow emoticon

Holy Shit! I apologize for a totally unrelated note. I know you like your music, Foz. Did you ever hear of Robert Miles?? He was best known for his trance/chill-out 90s classic "Children". This brought back so many memories from the 90s

youtube

He died a few months back. Why am I only hearing about this today!?

God I love that piece. I remember how popular it was back then. They use to play it in clubs all the time.

So far, it's been a more fun and far more popular and competitive challenge than I thought it'd be. Loving the shit out of it. Second place shall remain mine! Thanks for the update. emoticon

there's something infectious about other folks enthusiasm for these challenges, i wasn't expecting much from either the B/W or MonkeyApe ones, but ended up loving both & watching some great flicks i would normally stick my nose up at.

iechyd!

If you've never done the Turkey challenge or Oct. Challenge, then, you're definitely in for some more fun. They both could get crazy competitive on the old board. And going by how this one is going, I have no reason to think it won't go the same way here. Some familiar faces, and hopefully some new members will probably show up by next month. I predict a big one.

Oh, and I've already got some new rules I'm gonna add to the Trash Challenge next year that'll be sure to add to the enjoyment.

Did em both for the first time last year on the imdb board, wasnt really competative in either but good fun. Turkey one dished up some, erm, treats in the form of bad bad - HipHop Locos - and good bad - Rednack Zombies. A turkey highlight was Bloodsucking Freaks, one of the few films you've written about here that i've actually seen! how that's less than 5, as much as a travesty as Halloween III. the score, not the movie. the imdb score, not the film score, argh just gonna stop now!

you thinking way ahead for the TE challenge, look forward to whatever twisted nefarious extras your mind throws up

Thx Foz I'm Ok with a place in the midfield. Maybe the system with a point for anything would have been more profitable considering all those shorts I have been watching. emoticon
But even though they don't take up that much time, with usually little to no narration they can get boring after a while so I really can't spend hours watching them.
Usually those 1 minute shorts clock at 80 or a bit more seconds. Not sure if the rounding up or down is always correct but I just use the duration used on imdb unless I clearly saw a shorter version.

know what you mean about rounding off the mins on shorter stuff, usually go with imdb times. can't speak for anyone else but i'm not bothered about a few seconds either way, trust your judgement. unless you beat me by one point!

I'm not really looking at beating X or Y, just do my thing and register. Unless I could win a heavy sum of money I'm not going for the lead. emoticon

If something clocks over 30 seconds I usually round up.

1 minute 29 seconds = 1 point
1 minute 31 seconds = 2 points.

I never mentioned that in the rules and so far everyone has seemed OK with doing it their way so all is good. Using a posted time is cool too. Usually the winner is in another stratosphere of points anyway.

I noticed during the Ape challenge that with one of the POTA shows my times were consistently 2-3 minutes longer than everyone else. I was watching the DVDs and clocking them off that and I figured that others were watching them on-line where running times frequently get shorn - often by shortening or eliminating the credits.

What we watch is what we watch. Yogi Berra said that or would have if he had thought of it.

Awesome recap Foz. And that's coming from someone who saw mango juice in the fridge yesterday morning and then eyed the half full whiskey bottle and said, why not? I hadn't even made my coffee yet. It was a good day.

haha, good man! i can't tell if the 'why not?' was just the early start on the hard stuff, or the idea of a whiskey mango foxtrot cocktail... either way i applaud others daytime drinking, makes my own functioning alcoholism more self excusable

nice art too, what's it from?

The Why Not was a little of both. I have a young son and I'm often minding him in the morning since his mom is a baker and works early hours. Then we trade him off and I go to the library where I work. But one day a week we are both off so I took advantage of that and had a few early morning drinks - something i had not done for a very long time. I actually stopped at three drinks and remained functional - even ran on the treadmill before I had a few more that evening.

Hmm, Whiskey Mango Foxtrot would be a good name for this one. I like inventing strange cocktails. I have at least a dozen or more under my belt and naming them is just as much fun as making them. Been trying to perfect the Lost Horizon for at least two decades. The problem is every time I reach perfection with that one I black out and don't remember the ingredients and have to start all over.

I found the art after an exhaustive five minute search on the internet. Not sure what it is from but I liked the rawness of it.
