Word up, homos. With the rec challenge nearly finished over on IMDb, I was wondering who'd be up for something similar here? You'd be up for it, that's who.

There's a couple of advantages to having a challenge here rather than IMDb:
1. Less participants. Prolly only a half dozen or so of us would join in. Dat means, with 5 or 6 recs each, there'd only be a max 25-30 movies to watch over the span of a year. Easy peasy.
2. We all have fairly similar taste, meaning a high hit-rate for movies you enjoy. I mean, we all love boobs and gore and rape and trannies, right? So long as we all keep our recs trashy and epic, it's a guaranteed good time for all.

Sounds amazing, right? Hell, you'd have to be a weak-willed, syphillis-riddled, dog-fucking loser to not take a shot at a challenge this awesome. You're not one of them, are you? ARE YOU?

So if you're interested, say so here. If there's enough interest, then we'll probs kick off around mid January, so's everyone can get their recs in. If noone's up for it, that's cool. I'll just edit this post and thread title, and turn it into a thread full of piccies of Japanese chicks pissing on each other. Win-win!

How does this work? Who recommends what, and who has to watch it?

Basically, every participant recommends a certain number of films (I'd suggest between 6-8 flicks, depending on how many people join up). The films should all be stuff that you think the other participants will not have seen and will totally dig (coz only FTV's count for the overall score). Everyone watches the list of recs (the ones they haven't seen before) and rates each flick out of 10. At the end of the year, whoever picked the rec with the highest overall score wins!

Aside from being a good way to share cool flicks, it has the added bonus that we'll all be watching the same group of movies and thus it will hopefully stimulate more discussion.

I like it. We can make a specific thread to keep track of our FTVs, but I really would like people to vote on titles HERE, on this site. This site does a 5 star system, which I think is simpler. It's basically Crap, Bad, Meh, Good, and Great. @Tromafreak has been adding a shit-ton of titles on here, and either me or @Ballz can add any additional titles to the database. I also have a list feature on this site that isn't used much, but it could be used to keep track of this too. The list feature allows you to input a simple title, or you can additionally link a media title to a list entry by the media's id. That's one option, but whatever's simplest will suffice, I'm sure.

My big issue is that I pretty much watch recs from these users almost exclusively, so I don't know how many additional recs I can offer, but I'll see what I can do. And unlike IMDb, I can also make specific statistic pages for any of this, should it be necessary.

Anybody else down for this? If we can make it attractive enough, we maybe can lure more users to this site. Most users here remain inactive, but a lot of IMDb users have made an account here, so all they'd need to do is login.

All good ideas there, Renz. Sadly, it looks like interest is a little low. I didn't give much notice and kinda sprang this outta nowhere. Maybe later in the year we can look at organising some themed monthly challenges. I've also been thinking about a Filth/Trash Horoscope Challenge, where each sign of the zodiac corresponds to a specific exploitation subgenre and the goal is to watch/review movies of that type for as long as the starsign lasts. Just have to wait until Aries rolls around to start that one.

I think everyone is probably just perpetually hungover or something, hence their lack of input on here lately. I think the challenge idea could still work, so we'll try to shill it out a bit more and get more people involved. I think it's a good idea.

I don't give a shit about horoscopes, but I'll admit... I want to put them on the site. I've considered a system for it before that I want to revive. Daily horoscopes with insulting, irrelevant fake proverbs... but the monthly idea sounds like the lazy man's option, and that man is me. Feel free to elaborate on this one.

I think horoscopes are laughable bullshit too, but that's why we need a Zodiac of Filth. For example, Aries is the Ram, the rapeyest beast in all the farmyard. So, Aries will be the sign of Rape-revenge. Hence we spend the month celebrating rape-revenge movies. It's all about reclaiming the zodiac and using it as an excuse to watch dirty movies. I couldn't care less for shitty motivational blurbs, I just wanna see The Hess make sweet hate to some lovely ladies. emoticon

I'm loving it. Coming up with themes is something I've always sucked at, so throw some more at me.

Aries = Ram = Rape/Revenge
Taurus = Bull = energy drinks???
Gemini = Twin = ???
Cancer = Crab = ???
Leo = Lion = ???
Virgo = Maiden = iron-maiden/women's prison???
Libra = Scales = ???
Scorpio = Scorpion = ???
Sagittarius = Centaur/Archer = ???
Capricorn = Goat = Satan
Aquarius = Water-Bearer = ???
Pisces = Fish = ???

Help me out.

I've got all the zodiac signs/exploitation subgenres worked out. If I don't post an introductory thread in early March, then it means I've forgotten about it, so shoot me a memo to get it started.

I'll get it going over on IMDb too and hopefully lure a few people over here with the promise of uncut, undeletable reviews.

Tell me what you've got on the subgenres for the zodiac thing. You can do it privately if you want, but I want to know what we're in for, so I can best prepare for it. Probably tinker with the site design to reflect the theme of the month, appropriate background images, etc.

Hell, I may as well post 'em here. That way if anyone comes up with something better, they can suggest it. When I came up with this, I had a logical basis for each starsign/subgenre, but I've long since forgotten them. I'll just wing it when the time comes.

Aries - Rape-Revenge
Taurus - Cat III
Gemini - Splatter
Cancer - Roughies
Leo - Nazisploitation
Virgo - Pinku (was going for the idea of purity defiled, but your WIP suggestion may be more suitable)
Libra - Mondos
Scorpio - Pseudo-snuff
Sagittarius - Hentai
Capricorn - Nunsploitation (kinda similar to your suggeston of anything Satan related)
Aquarius - Nudie Cuties
Pisces - Cannibals

So this would kick off in late March. As for the rec challenge, I'll set the wheels in motion in the next week or so. Only a handful of participants, so I think about 8 recs each would be a good number.

I like this idea that way we wouldn't have close 200 movies. I just couldn't find the time to watch all the recs over on IMDB. I would participate.

Exactly what I was thinking. Also, we don't need to limit ourselves to horror here. We can have some trashy action, comedy and drama movies sprinkled in. A bit of variety will keep it more interesting.

This sounds like something I'll be interested in. Am on holidays right now, but should be able to put some effort into recs soon. emoticon

I'll aim to start it within the next couple of weeks. Hopefully a few more people will be onboard by that point. If not, we can just increase the number of recs per person.

I think it would be cool if everyone provided a streaming/download link for every movie they rec (or I could do that for them).

The only other option is that we start the Trash Epics worldwide disc-trading network. I can get a hold of pretty much any movie, so I'll send a copy to Shaz. Shaz will send it to Tromz. Tromz will send it to Mathz. Mathz will send it to you. You will send it to Ballz. Ballz will send it to Der. Der will send it to Skee-Lo. Skee-Lo will send it to Moff. Moff will send it to Fulcunto. Fulcunto will send it to Slunchy. And Slunchy can send it to everyone else. Don't worry, Slunchy's loaded, he can afford the extra postage.

Sending discs to him or her might get confusing, but streaming links is an option. Netflix/streaming, torrents, renting, or buying. I'm sure if someone is adamant enough, they can find a way to get a hold of the film.

@Ballz had a method worth looking into, involving hosting a video file on Google Drive, and limiting access to a select few. I think it might require creating a google account for the privacy settings to work, but then again, doesn't everyone already have a Google?

I was just kidding about the tape-trading. The easiest option is to only choose recs that are available on either Youtube, Veehd or Stagevu. And if you have a cool flick that isn't on any of those stream sites, then upload it, you hoarding fucks!

I'm trying something different with this challenge. @Ninja will host the challenge however he wants, but I'll keep related info here, in a custom page that can be tailored to the challenges every whim.
