DC Stuff

What are your thoughts on DC movies and shows? Marvel is imploding upon itself, so I'm trying to get more acquainted with the company that makes content for adults. I don't care for most properties outside of the Batman/Gotham variety, but I do believe DC has something decent every now and then that isn't just Batman. DC is also brave enough to do standalone movies outside of the convoluted and cluttered continuities of the "cinemative universe" trend.

I got HBO Max to catch up on some comic junk, and Harley Quinn season 3 is out now. It's a fun show with a lot of dirty gags, and Christopher Meloni as Jim Gordon is the best. Also, Harley and Poison Ivy are in a relationship. She's sooo over Joker.

I also watched Peacemaker, which is a spin-off of THE Suicide Squad, which is a sequel to Suicide Squad, which is a spin-off from the Justice League movies, but apparently, none of that matters. DC plays fast and loose with the continuity, because fuck it. Most of their stuff sucks anyway, but that attitude right there has been the reason the whole thing has been getting better. But Peacemaker as a show was okay at best. John Cena did keep it afloat though.

I wanted to watch Swamp Thing, which is supposed to be James Wan's body horror contribution to the DCEU, but HBO took it off. Bastards! Swamp Thing has always been a favorite of mine, due to the 1982 & 1989 movies and a slew of action figures.

And last of all... the DC animated movies are better than the live-action movies. "Flashpoint Paradox" and "Doomsday" are pretty awesome.

And if you hate DC, then you should watch The Boys, which makes the Justice League knockoffs into evil attention whores, which makes things infinitely more interesting. It's one of the few current shows get excited for. emoticon

WB has cancelled their "Batgirl" film featuring Michael Keaton's Batman. Why? For a... tax write-off? And because the movie wasn't blockbustery enough? What a bunch of boneheads.

Looks like The Flash might not get released either now. Poor ole Michael Keaton...

From what I've seen the test screens were overwhelming negetive and for continuity sake the Flash film should be released before. With all the bad publicity concerning We Need to Talk About Ezra Miller, I guess they figured it wasn't worth spending 50 million on re-shoots. Supposedly they've cancelled the Supergirl film too.

I heard that despite Ezra's constant misconduct, The Flash movie isn't in jeopardy somehow. I guess they have enough faith in it, and have been pushing it for a while. The Batgirl movie is a tad different though, since it was announced and had the Keaton casting, yet they still kept it more lowkey than the Flash movie. I wouldn't put it past them to say the whole cancellation was premeditated.

If they're concerned the movie isn't action-packed enough, that has me more interested than your usual CGI garbage fest, for sure. WB doesn't know what the real fans want. It's usually in these superhero movies that I have plenty of investment until they go overboard on the visual effects, then I zone out and wait for that bullshit to end.

The Critical Drinker on YT just released a vid on the whole subject. IMO this guy always hits the mark, no bullshit. He shills for no one and just gives his honest opinion. Yeah he isn't the most optimistic but either is the state of cinema these days imo. Look for his The Drinker Recommends vids for his upside.

I'm a big fan of the Drinker. You mentioning him before is the reason I started watching his stuff. "Go away now."

Honestly most critics these days are shills looking to get invited to early access premieres along with their bag of goodies on their way out and if they give a bad review they don't get invited to the next and they know it which is why a piece of shit like The Eternals gets glowing reviews. The Drinker is my favorite go to critic. I also listen to Chris Gore from Film Threat, especially for indies. Mr. H reviews is pretty good and Jeremy Jahns is pretty solid even though I don't always agree. I stopped paying attention to anyone else.

The Drinker is my favorite too. My opinion lines up with his 99% of the time. I recently got into Film Threat through Chris Gore's appearances on Midnight's Edge. Mr. H has been on there too, but I've never watched his reviews. Midnight's Edge are good if you don't already know about them. I think they've become known more for their daily live streams at this point, but they also do some shorter videos on movie and TV news.

Chris Gore has been reviewing films since the 90s. He used to do the film and DVD reviews on G4's Attack of the Show in the 2000's. Mr H actually does really good reviews on his channel, was praising Prey the other day. Sometimes listen to ME in the Morning livestreams as well.
