Demonic Toys

Mar '21
I don't have a terribly high opinion of Full Moon. I love the idea, but I haven't seen many that I would call great. They're known for Puppetmaster, right? And that one was pretty mediocre, so naturally, they had to make an excessive amount of sequels and spin-offs. Here's another. Demonic Toys.

Right off the bat, I notice a standout in the credits. David S. Goyer wrote this film before he was writing A-list movies, and because of this, the movie isn't terrible. By Full Moon standards, it's pretty good, which in regular cinema standards means it's still below par.

The fast-food guy represents the classic tough-talking dude who turns into a sissy in the face of real danger. The security guard was the best though. I just love sloppy inept characters of any type, and this is one of 'em. They could have made the whole movie about him and it would be better.

For Full Moon Trancers is awesome. I like Dollman, Oblivion, Pit and the Pendulum and Subspecies as well.

Trancers is my favorite, hands down. I'll give the others a whirl if they cross my path. Amazon Prime is the place to look.

I like enough Full Moon flicks to be able to say I like Full Moon... I think. The Subspecies films are pretty great. Nothing quite like them to be honest. I saw one called Dark Angel: The Ascent that I liked a lot. Drawing a blank on others I enjoyed at the moment, but I won't be watching Demonic Toys this month or any month in the future. Can't stand those Puppetmaster movies, and whatever success Charles Band has enjoyed because of them seems to have given him the idea that people just love movies about killer dolls and other little things that kill, enough to make more than a fanbase would ever need. How many Puppetmasters again? 3 or 4 Gingerdead Man movies? At least 8 Killer Bongs? Pretty sure they made a Gingerdead Man VS. Killer Bong. What the fuck, that's stupid! What if Lloyd Kaufman was like that? There'd be 27 Toxic Avengers by now and and atleast half a dozen new series attempting to capitalize off their popularity but too similar to be taken seriously. And Tromie the Squirrel would no doubt have his own spin-off quadrilogy, along with a separate Tromie vs. Killer Condom spin-off, leading to several sequels to that, and at least one prequel.
