I've been working on a lot of changes to the internal mechanics of the site, so as you've probably noticed, a lot of features don't work. I try to prioritize them by which ones users will notice are gone and which they wont, so I'll be keeping the forum and shoutbox open as long as I can, but I'll need to shut them down soon so I can rework them.

Fortunately, I believe that the TEDb skin will still work in the meantime, so if you come to TE one day and see everything is broken, try the TEDb skin. Things shouldn't take too long to fix once they're down, but I'm trying to go through enough code to make sure I cover enough ground to keep that time at the bare minimum.

The update wont be particularly noticable for most of you, but the site will act more as a single page application, which should cut back on load times and make fewer redundant calls to the server. The visual design will mostly stay the same, with minor tweaks here and there.

Expect these changes within the next few weeks.

Sometime during the week, I'll be shutting down the boards to convert them to the new style. Hopefully the downtime wont be very long, but we'll find out, wont we?

In the meantime, TEDb will still be open as my non-dynamic fallback, and shouts can still be made/read on the normal shout page.

It's been long enough, and I'm gonna get this damn update done.

Just going to ramble a bit on the new site stuff I've been working, for anyone who's interested.

The main goal with the update is to selectively load parts of the page and get the url and back/forward navigation stuff working. This promotes more consistency in site themes, gimmicks, and layouts.

It may not seem like much to the casual viewer, but it required a lot of work to standardize the way scripts are structured, loaded, and unloaded. Boring shit, but quite a process for me to figure, but when I do it, I get distracted by side projects of whatever I may learn, and I've learned quite a few things since starting these redesigns.

So I've been working on site themes quite a bit. Some of the themes are legacy jokes like Danielle Harris and St Paddys, but I still think the idea of movie-themed layouts are great. My man @ballz helped me a lot with the logos, sound effects, and other graphics, and I'm hoping to milk him for a few more gimmicks.

I can definitely get more carried away in these themes if anyone has any suggestions. I'm currently obsessing over the Terminator T-800 view, because that infrared GUI stuff can encompass a lot. Plus, I'm a hardcore Terminator nerd, so fuck off.

I'm also dabbling with slideshow backgrounds for themes. I figure the David Bowie theme could be jazzed up with pics of Bowie from all eras. Not sure what other gimmicks to put for that theme except maybe randomly changing avatars to versions of Bowie. Sort of like how I Buscemi people.

In general, I've been trying to fix all the little bits I've broken whilst trying to improve the site, and the goal is to make them all a bit better in the process. TE is in a state of renaissance, and if you want improvements, now's the time to ask.

I'm building a great framework here, and I want our users to feel encouraged to ask for new features and functionality. These kind of innovations are what keeps me going, and I love designing this site to optimize the demand of the market.

I still see so much potential here, and I want to find the best ways to exploit that for all it's worth. Stay sexy, people. You're the best.

More Update Stuff: (Refresh if you haven't in a while)

Some users prefer the old way of adding/editing posts and comments where you're redirected to a separate page. I know that some of the current markup stuff can be a bit buggy at times, so it's understandable to want the lower-tech version (which is also the default way for adding private messages). I aim to support both the new and old types.

To Add a Post the old way, click on the ➕ by the search icon on the Forum page instead and you'll be redirected to the stripped down version.

To Edit a Post the old way, click the ⚙ī¸ Edit button by the desired post on the forum display and you'll be redirected to the legacy version. Alternatively, you can right-click the post's normal Edit link and open in a new tab.

To Add a Comment the old way, right-click the rounded "Reply" button and open in a new tab. The same goes for Editing a Comment.

For these older versions, I've fixed the preview system to minimize page redirects. Report any bugs to me pronto.
