Loosely based on a true story set in 1993, the book was written in 1998, and the movie came out in 2001. As most of you know, Larry Clark movies often feature delinquent youths as the main characters, and these ones are the worst, and I mean that in a narratively sound manner. The acting in this movie is wonderful, and so is the cast. There are a lot of recognizable names, and it's all about the performances.

Brad Renfro is Marty, the surfer stoner who is often abused by his "best friend" Bobby, played by Nick Stahl as a closet homosexual who uses Marty as a punching bag for his sexually frustrated insecurities.

Rachel Miner plays Lisa, Marty's new girlfriend who is clearly fucked in the head. She starts the whole scheme and even gets off to the idea of murdering somebody.

Bijou Phillips plays her kinky friend Ali, an irresponsible young woman who lets her parents raise her baby son while she goes off to bang all sorts of young guys, such as Donny, played by Michael Pitt as the sexy and dumb stoner dude who gets reeled into this for no other reason than his girlfriend asking him to help.

Kelli Garner plays Heather, another damaged youth who joins in for the fuck of it. Daniel Franzese (who is in a handful of my favorite movies) plays Lisa's big brother Derek who reluctantly gets involved in his sister's defense.

And finally, we have that McLovin looking motherfucker from "Kids" Leo Fitzpatrick, who plays another guy named Derek, who claims to be a hitman. Larry Clark himself plays this Derek's dad, and on a funny side note, some kid in that family looks like a young Ron Perlman, almost hilariously so.

The rebelious teenage recklessness never ends. This movie has sex, drug use, masturbation, homo lovin', rape, and brutality. It's raw, and these characters are real. I really love movies like this. Movies that are dark character studies of damaged young minds pushed into dire circumstances.

At the end, it tells you what fate had fallen upon our protagonistsantagonists, and you can spoil that for yourselves here:

Damn good movie. I've been meaning to watch more Larry Clark movies for years now, as I've only see "Kids" and "Ken Park", but I loved all of them. They're a little hard to come by, but I need to find them.

Fantastic movie. Been a fan for years. Coincidentally enough, I just gave it a re-watch a few weeks ago. You peepin' in my windows again?!

It's filmed in my neck of the woods too, where the case originated. I may or may not be proud of this white trash fact. RIP Brad Renfro.

Did you know Bijou Phillips' father was in the group The Mamas and the Papas and allegedly had an incestuous relationship with his daughter, Bijou's half sister, she also has another half sister, Chyna Phillips, of 90s pop group Wilson Phillips.

Interesting. I figure that would make you more aware of the real facts behind the story if it's local lore. Have you been to the spot where it happened? That ought to be a weird place to be.

Bijou was in a few good movies. This, Almost Famous, and to a lesser extent, Hostel 2. As I looked her up, the side news has a Perez Hilton link, "Was Bijou Phillips Involved With Her Father Too????" I guess it's a common suspicion.

In 1993 I was 10 and wasn't privy to the events. Probably too busy watching Ren and Stimpy.

I wasn't aware of Weston, where the murder took place, until later on in the '90s. It's a small city, kinda richy upper class, south of Ft. Lauderdale but north of Pembroke Pines, which is where I lived at the time. I spent a lot of time in Weston in the 00's when I worked at a local Home Depot and I had a good friend who lived there as well. In 1993, the area probably looked very different. The Everglades is right in our backyard, practically. According to my parents, in the 70s and 80, the area I'm talking about (Weston and Pembroke Pines) seemed like the middle of nowhere. The Hollywood Sportatorium, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood_Sportatorium , was the only reason anyone ever went out that way, for music concerts.

I remember when my parents and I moved from Miami to Pembroke Pines in 1992 it was an up-and-coming area where a lot of families were moving to, but it was still massively underdeveloped (now it's an overcrowded hell.) In 1993, Weston probably appeared to be a great place to murder someone and get away with it.

Bijou was also in Venom (2005). I wouldn't necessarily call it a good movie, but it's horror... worth at least mentioning here. She was cute in that, until... ummmm well, without giving spoilers, let me just say something happpens to her after which I'm pretty sure she would have been less cute. I think I saw Venom because Agnes Bruckner was in it. She is also cute.

I should watch more Larry Clark movies too. I've only seen Ken Park. Don't remember much about it outside of some of the edgier scenes, like the opening suicide and the one boy banging his girlfriend's mother. Bully sounds like more of the same, that being a good thing of course.

Big fan of Clark's since I went to the 1st Warped Tour in 95 when they promoted Kids. Bully is a favorite and another example of Nick Stahl being a fantastic actor...hint, hint....T3 Rise of the Machines!

Nick Stahl was great in this movie. He goes from being that tough-talking asshole to his dad's little bitch very well. I love the part where he tells his dad he wont hang out with Marty anymore, then when dad talks to him about the stereo shop, he asks if they can hire Marty. emoticon

Let's also not forget about that yellow bastard...

Bro....he's a great actor Bully and Carnivale proves it. Tonight on HBO they're finallly properly ending Deadwood with an HBO film that ties up ends. I only hope they will eventually end Carnivale the same way. If you haven't watched Carnivale yet Box, I highly recommend it bud.

Bully is a solid movie, and it's so disturbing. I think if you watched Bully and the movie Funny Ha Ha (which was filmed within a mile of where I lived for the first decade of this millennium, by the way), you would get an extremely accurate idea of what many young people are like now, God help us.

The ending song in Bully is really effectice and appropriate. Something about the bright bright yellow sun... they are revealed as who they truly are, and it's not a flattering portrait.
