Not US magazine. Not the United States. This is Jordan Peele's US. If his last movie was any indication, this movie would be okay at best. And it is. Okay.

I still think it's funny that this comedian is taking over horror. This movie will probably win two or three oscars. Even if I don't think "Get Out" was great, I still respect the guy for conning those Oscar nuts into giving him an Oscar for best screenplay on a movie that's quite similar to a few other titles and has a foggy story to it. He did it though, and that's why it's a hilarious joke on the cinematic standards of their whole award system.

Don't get me wrong. I do like Jordan Peele, and I look forward to his take on the Twilight Zone. That might be worth tuning into.

So what's this movie "Us" about anyway? Jordan Peele was seemingly inspired by the doppleganger episode of Twilight Zone, "Mirror Image" (1960). That was a good episode. Not particularly about much, but it leaves you pondering.

Dopplegangers are a very interesting concept, and I think this movie has a unique way of going about it. It has a twist, or does it not? Why aren't there more movies on dopplegangers? That could be a whole subgenre there.

For what it's worth, the performances are top notch. The family unit plays well. You like the characters, they put up a good fight, and the actors put forth a good effort.

As I watched this movie, set by the beaches and boardwalks, I thought of Carnival of Souls. It has a strong parallel or two.

Jordan Peele is a blueberry pie.

Eh. I gave it a 3/5. I feel that it's a good idea, but for some reason, I just didn't love it. emoticon

I had the same reaction to this movie as get out. It was an okay movie, but definitely not worth the hype. I also give it a 3/5.

I was about 90% through the movie and the theatre got evacuated because of a four alarm fire in an apartment complex right next to the theatre. I was pretty much meh about this. The first half was boring and the second half battle really wasn’t that exciting. I am just not sold on the idea of a bunch of doppelgangers taking over Earth. Maybe the ending explained things better but I didn’t quite see it all.

That's a bummer, but if your general opinion was meh, then the ending wont change anything. It's a decent ending, but it's an obvious twist that you'll see from a mile away.

And it isn't dopplegangers taking over earth, but just the continental U.S. As soon as I found that out, I started to smell a political agenda going on. emoticon

They really don't go into detail on the origins of these creatures, but some of it is interesting, like how they eat all those bunnies. Not sure of any good mythology or movies on the subject. Just looked up "doppleganger" in d&d terms, too.

I saw vibes of Freddy's boiler room and Hellbound's mental institutions as they went deep into it. I thought that part was pretty interesting, but I was still underwhelmed either way. I feel that the idea is ultra cool, but something was off about it... Maybe it needs more gore and titties? emoticon

We were evacuated right when the fake mom kidnapped the son.

A lady I met in a grocery store last night just called me tonight and we started talking about this movie. I didn't know anything about it until she told me. She said she wants to see it so it's possible she'd hoping we'll go together. She really likes horror movies.

I have seen the director's other movie, Get Out. It wasn't too bad. But I recently read that he won't hire white people to be in his movies, so that sounds like something I can't support.

Both of his movies have white people in them.

I read something about how he didn't want to cast white people in the lead roles. "I've seen that movie," he says.

This movie did have a white family in it, though. Somehow, Jordan Peele does manage to keep any racial matters to a minimum, but he is kind of metaphorical about it in some ways. Still, he somehow thinks that casting black people in the leads makes it different movie. That in itself is kind of racist, but meh. The movie would have been the same with a white family or a black family, and maybe that's the point he's trying to make.

Just watched this today and wow...

I was extremely excited to watch this when I had watched the trailer! Then after watching it... was disappointed. I’m a fan of Jordan Peele. I loved the movie Get Out, so I was ready for this one!
I thought it was going to be a scary movie, but it was more of a thriller, which was okay but not what I was expecting. The concept behind it didn’t make sense to me.

The ending confused me at first, but then I understood it when I was processing it after the movie was over.

Overall, not my favorite but not the worst I’ve seen. I wouldn’t have paid to watch this, so thankfully I got it free!
