In search of some easy trash points, I also watched The Manson Family again. Jim Van Bebber's finite career is fascinating. He's made a handful of short films, some music videos, and then a couple of hardcore grindhouse films! Then for a while now, I haven't heard any buzz for this guy. He was supposed to make that damn Gator Green short and/or movie, but I can't find anything about it. Is it real? Either way, I don't want just a 15 minute short. I want to see another full-length feature from this guy!

The Manson Family has always been one of my favorites. It's got a lot going for it, as does his first feature "Deadbeat at Dawn", a gritty gang movie about a badass who's got a score to settle. Also, him playing prominent roles in both movies is pretty awesome, because he won me over with his great fight choreography.

I read somewhere that he probably used the alleged movie's budget on buying weed, which would be both tragic and hilariously ballsy, but I hope I can see more of this guy's work out there. We only have so few auteurs left. Those who make movies without any restrictions. I believe Jim is one of them. He makes it the way he wants it, and funding is obviously going to be hard to secure for that risky breed, but someone with a lot of money has to figure it out soon, right? Give this guy the money! Give him whatever he wants!

Gator Green's an extra on the Blu-ray for The Manson Family. I'd like to see it, but I don't like The Manson Family enough to own it twice. Deadbeat at Dawn's pretty good. I have Van Bebber's Visions of Hell set. It's a nice set, especially with all his shorts (minus Gator Green) as extras.

Remember the days when a dvd meant something? That Jim Van Bebber set is one of those collections that meant something. One of those dvds I take pride in.

There are still releases you can be proud to own. They just cost a lot more now.
