Would you want one? Think of it like the movie/tv database, which is technically also a video game database (but I haven't added shit). You can add titles, categorize stuff, and rate it.

You could add basic horror-ish titles and whatever else. I'm sure there are plenty of important horror novels that were adapted into films, as well as horror novelizations that could be mentioned.

I'm asking for thoughts and trying to build hype, but either way, I'm gonna add this feature because the framework is already there. I just want want to see what kind of titles ought to come up. I'm thinking everything from Stephen King, Jack Ketchum, and all those prominent horror movies based on books, like Psycho, The Exorcist, etc. I don't want this thing to be dead in the water as soon as I add the feature. I want to have enough titles to make it halfway decent.

Thoughts? What titles should be added? Do you even read, bro? (I don't)

I read a little. Sometimes I wish I had more time for reading, but then I'd have to watch less. And well, fuck that.

King should definitely be at the top of the list whenever you start this book database. I'm not even crazy about a fair bit of his writing, but his name's everywhere in the world of horror. Some novelizations would probably be good additions. Those can be interesting sometimes since usually they aren't based on the final script. Curtis Richards' Halloween comes to mind.

I'd like to say H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe should also be priorities, but they're mostly known for their short stories. Not sure how you would handle that, if at all.

We have movies, we have shorts. We'd have novels, we'd have short stories. How to measure that, though? Number of words? Chapters? Because pages isn't consistent, depending on page and font size. Then there are books like the bible with multiple versions, and agh! What to do?

With someone like Lovecraft, Wikipedia points out on his bibliography what's a short story and what's not. But maybe short stories just shouldn't be acknowledged unless they're part of a specific collection. King's released a lot of short story collections and there are probably plenty of posthumous collections for Lovecraft and Poe. On the description of those collections, we could list which short stories are included.

As for multiple versions, I wouldn't worry too much. There are multiple versions/cuts of movies and we don't add those. Plus, far fewer books have multiple versions compared to movies.

Yes, I read. You definitely need some Richard Laymon and Edward Lee in your database. Whether you read or not, every gorehound needs to read Edward Lee's The Bighead.

I think this could be interesting, helpful, worthwhile, etc.

If you look on Twitter for a few people like Grady Hendrix, Owl Goingback, MotherHorror, Paperback Horror, and some others (I can suggest others if you want) and if you look at who their mutual Twitter followers/followees are, you can start getting lots of ideas for titles and authors to include.

Also, do you ever use Librarything.com? If you just spend some time looking at that, you could probably get some solid ideas for creating a database.

Update

I've added "Book" as a media type, so you will now be able to add and rate books and short stories. I've added a few authors to the people database too.

Anyone who is able to add titles should do so. Add whatever you want. I figure there are a few essentials by the likes of Stephen King, Clive Barker, Edgar Allen Poe, HP Lovecraft, and whoever else is a big deal. Also add any novelizations you like. A good book is a good book. Doesn't need to be horror or trash, either.
