In retrospect, I cannot take them seriously. However, in retrospect is the only knowledge I have of this year's categories, because I didn't watch the Oscars, nor do I feel as though I should have. Hollywood continues its descent into a dying cliche every time a movie producer tries to play it safe and go the route that makes the most money, but art isn't about the money. It's about the effect that the art leaves with you, and (like many large organizations) the Academy Awards lean towards politically correct films and themes. Now, a movie doesn't need trashy subject matter for me to appreciate it... but it helps.

Have I seen even half of this year's winning films? No. No, I have not seen Gravity. In fact, the only movie I saw was Dallas Buyer's Club, because it was all about AIDS, transvestites, and most importantly, Mathew McConaughey as a redneck. It's legitimately a good movie too, and I really enjoyed it, but most of the nominees this year don't draw me in at all.

I feel as though horror, exploitation, and cult films and interests can have their own entire awards, hosted here, on this site. Users would simply submit their nominations, and vote. The Trash Awards could cover film, television, music, literature, and even people awards. Mainstream nominations would be allowed, but independent projects would be encouraged.

Let's make our own annual awards, here on Trash Epics.

Happy to assist if I can with a database.

Also, on awards, if you can get the right people here, you could also have something like a short film competition, with a Trash Award (or several) for the winner. I know I'd be up for it just for shits and giggles, and I'm sure others would. As well as talking and reviewing trash, we might as well be making it!

Might be a bit ambitious for early days, running before you can walk and all that, but in a couple of years perhaps? Of course there will no doubt be folks who already have stuff on YouTube, so get some of that stuff posted (hint, hint Mr Director... I've seen your Things/Tromafreak epic, and it should be here front and center!).

Only thing I'd add to that list would be split film into live action and animated.

Of course, if someone made something like that vid I posted the other day, it would straddle to the two categorise like some giant... straddling thing. Hmmm. Seem to have lost that analogy. Anyway, it's clearly live action, but it feels more like animation.

May also be cool to have a kind of 'behind the scenes/commentary' thread for movies so people can talk (well, write) about the experience, how the got their inspiration, highs and lows, etc. Only if they want to, of course.
