In retrospect, I cannot take them seriously. However, in retrospect is the only knowledge I have of this year's categories, because I didn't watch the Oscars, nor do I feel as though I should have. Hollywood continues its descent into a dying cliche every time a movie producer tries to play it safe and go the route that makes the most money, but art isn't about the money. It's about the effect that the art leaves with you, and (like many large organizations) the Academy Awards lean towards politically correct films and themes. Now, a movie doesn't need trashy subject matter for me to appreciate it... but it helps.

Have I seen even half of this year's winning films? No. No, I have not seen Gravity. In fact, the only movie I saw was Dallas Buyer's Club, because it was all about AIDS, transvestites, and most importantly, Mathew McConaughey as a redneck. It's legitimately a good movie too, and I really enjoyed it, but most of the nominees this year don't draw me in at all.

I feel as though horror, exploitation, and cult films and interests can have their own entire awards, hosted here, on this site. Users would simply submit their nominations, and vote. The Trash Awards could cover film, television, music, literature, and even people awards. Mainstream nominations would be allowed, but independent projects would be encouraged.

Let's make our own annual awards, here on Trash Epics.

I'd be down for any of these categories. Literature/novels is a whole new venture in itself to dive into, but since I'm illiterate, we'll need to rely on the opinions of others for that whole bit.

The sad thing is that no soundtracks for any movie are memorable these days, so I'd probably just default the winner of the annual "Best Score" category to Things, every single year.

I've considered this awards system and have decided to create my own movie database on the site, complete with film info, voting & reviews, and film/dvd lists. However, I would need contributors for such a task if I want to build up a good library of titles, because I'm too lazy to define hundreds of titles in a row, but it could be done. And it would integrate with the Trash Awards too. I'll be plotting this, so now's the time to throw out any ideas for it.

I appreciate that very much. Terrible Things has lore to it now, as the blue sweater mullet himself, Barry J. Gillis, commented on it (and liked it). Since I posted Terrible Things on July 4th (America's birthday), and today is Ireland's birthday "St. Patrick's Day"... and Irish people are always drunk, just like the characters of Terrible Things. Even the teddy bear was drunk in that video.

As for the user contests, the awards would be an achievement, though we'd need more participants before any rules could be established. My vague contest ideas included:
- Best Short Film (0-5 minutes)
- Best Short Story (0-5 pages)
- Best Song (0-5 minutes)

Suggestions welcome.

You're absolutely right about the trash though. If we're gonna take over the world, we need to spread the filth.

Yes, the shorts would be included in the trash film database (if desired). Not to suggest that the films in the database will be explicitly "trashy" titles, but really any film is acceptable for now. I'm hoping to merge some kind of video cataloguing service into this (such as for dvd lists), so the database would need to encompass a lot, but fortunately, those here on this site are likely to add fitting titles for us.

I'm thinking of excluding genre categories in favor of merging them into tags. Tags will factor into the search for things I don't want to allocate too much data for, but they can be valuable in other ways regardless. For example, if you tag a post with [shout], it gives your post a shoutbox, you dig?
