The obvious three are My Bloody Valentine (1981), Valentine (2001), and My Bloody Valentine (2009). I think the original MBV is a solid 80s slasher, and the remake is great because Tom Atkins is in it. I try to watch them both every year, and this year, I'll get points for it. emoticon

I don't remember much about Valentine, but it's due for a rewatch. I remember thinking it was kinda stupid, because his nose is always bleeding. What a loser he was.

It's also come to my attention that X-Ray is aka "By My Valentine, or Else..." (also aka "Hospital Massacre"), and that was another solid 1981 slasher. I don't remember much to do with the actual holiday or love themes, but I want to give it a rewatch anyway.

Also, the 1972 Tales from the Crypt has that segment with Peter Cushing where he receives all those wonderful valentines cards from the children.

Never saw Picnic at Hanging Rock yet, but that's set on V-Day apparently.

I totally googled this list, but it looks like Valentine's Day doesn't have a lot of other horror titles to offer. I still don't understand why MBV never started a franchise. Even the remake was fun, despite it's stupid twist ending.

I opened my October Horrorthon with Valentine (2001). Talk about a shitty opener to set the tone...

I only seen My Bloody Valentine (1981) there, and I liked it well enough. It wasn't anything special but it was decent. I would like to see the remake to see how it compares. I have Hospital Massacre on my watch list since last week so I will be getting aroun to it soon. There is not many of these movies.

I like My Bloody Valentine. I've never seen the remake but I plan to watch it this Valentines. The only other one I can think of is the opening segment in Holidays (2016). It was alright.

I'll put "Holidays" on the watchlist. MBV 3D was a pretty fun remake. Some cool 3D gimmicks, a twist on the premise, good kills, and like I said earlier, Tom Atkins, the man of action. It's a remake I hold right about on par with the original.

Holidays is kind of a mixed bag, but it's worth it for Easter and Father's Day.

Strangely, out of the tfirst three you mentioned, I prefer Valentine. I didn't think the My Bloody Valentine remake was all that bad either. The original, however, is duller than dogshit, imo. Probably my least favorite as far as the heyday of 80's slashers goes. Besides The Prowler, maybe. They're all a fuckin' hoot and a half compared to Picnic At Hanging Rock, though.

Hospital Massacre rocks, but yeah, the holiday angle is very underutilized. Guess that's why they went with the title change. It isn't very Valentinesy at all.

Didn't realize that was an alternate title for X-Ray. Good to know for the challenge, because I don't recall any bangin' going on in that movie.

My Bloody Valentine '81 is my favorite Valentine's Day horror movie, at least the "uncut" version. The remake's good too, one of the better slasher remakes out there. Too bad it never got a sequel. Pretty sure a sequel was rumored for a while.

Never seen Valentine, but I guess it's time to change that.

Me and ballz always figured Tom Atkins could return in the MBV sequel with his jaw duct-taped back on. "Thrill Me!" / "It's Miller Time!" / "That's why God made fathers!"

I'll watch Valentine soon, but I don't remember shit about it. It's got David Boreanaz and Denise Richards. He's okay because Buffy/Angel was mildly amusing, and Denise was hot back in the day, but it's due for a revisit for me for sure.

I'm about to watch the 2009 My Bloody Valentine in about 30 minutes here. Been putting it off for years because the original is one of my favorite slasher films. It has Tom Atkins and it's rumored to be very bloody, so maybe it won't be as bad as I initially feared it would be.

Hospital Massacre is okay, but the score botherd me. It sounds like it belongs in a different movie, like maybe something with a religious or satanic angle. As others have said, the Valentine angle isn't played up at all after the opening scene. It's fairly bloody and has a fairly high body count and some creepy moments, so it holds its own against some of the worse slashers from that time period like Madman, Hell Night and Nightmare in a Damaged Brain.

Picnic at Hanging Rock is good, but hard to compare to any of these others because it's a totally different kind of movie. It's very well-shot and works as a mystery, but it's not like watching a slasher film at all. It has a great period atmosphere and uses its locations to maximum effect for the most part. It prominently features Zamfir on its score well before he became known for his pan flute versions of popular hits and the butt of many jokes on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show.

Valentine I have not seen. I ought to check that one out one of these years.

I have seen the original My Bloody Valentine a few days ago and I'm with Messiah one this one, it's rather dull when there is no killing going on. That romantic sub plot was cringeworthy just like the 'twist' in the end. No the killings weren't that great either and no gartuitous nudity. Best thing was the mine setting.
