A few days ago, season 2 of the Stan Original spin-off series of the film series of the same name. It kinda makes you wonder about the continuity of these things, and "spin-off" might not be the best word. It's a straight-up continuation. Maybe they're through with making movies and sequels and are focusing just on the show now? Perhaps the 2014 sequel was a test to see how well Mick Taylor is received after almost a decade without a Wolf Creek film. I guess it worked, cuz they went on to make 6 hour-long episodes.

Honestly, I thought the 2016 show was fantastic. It was so well paced, it did a lot of exploration into the psyche of our antagonist, and our female lead (Lucy Fry) was downright awesome. A very strong character worth rooting for, and it was so well paced. Season 1 was the perfect cat and mouse game, strong enough to stand on its own.

So how was season 2? The main premise involves a group of tourists getting ready to see the outback in all its glory. To creeps like us who watch this shit, we already know what's coming. Mick Taylor is out and about, and has no real motive to do anything, so what does he do? He hijacks the bus, and the rest is a fight for survival.

There's no real depth to the plot of this one. For those of us watched season 1, we're all pretty confused as to why this is even able to happen. They barely allude to any other events, and it kind of seems like the writers didn't care this time around. They have different demographics getting picked off, but no real subtext to it.

I think this season existing at all is going to lead to inevitable lack of real surprise in this series, because really... if these things don't kill Mick Taylor, the dude is invincible, and where's the fun in that?

Note that most of the entries in this series have bleak endings. The first was bleak, the second was too, and then season 1 came along and changed a lot of things. Then, season 2 kinda goes back to that same nihilistic mindset. The ending was alright, but it's always kind of a hopeless scenario, and it can only get more predictable as it goes on.

Will I watch a season 3 if they make it? emoticon Absolutely. I'm a sucker for this shit. I love John Jarratt as the killer, but he didn't have much to work with in this season.

I like tit.

Did you expect the โ€œmain guyโ€ to turn out to be a total piece of shit? I gotta say I had a bad feeling about him from pretty early in the season.

They made it pretty obvious. He'd brought up the ideas a few times earlier, so it wasn't unexpected. None of the characters were really standout, and some of the ones that could have been interesting were picked off rather quickly. Kind of a bummer.
