I don't know about you, but I'm kind of losing it without other forums to use. emoticon The other imdb replacements aren't proving themselves to be very competent, or they're just dead. I need new stomping grounds. We need more trash addicts!

What forums do you lurk, and perhaps even post in? Are message boards like this fading away in favor of sites like Facebook with groups and whatnot?

Without IMDb, I of course post less, but the posting I do is far more enjoyable. I only post here and I couldn't be more ok with that cuz this site kicks ass, especially compared to the other so-called alternatives I've seen. But yeah. Messages boards in general certainly aren't getting any more popular. All we can do is keep this one alive for as long as we can.

This is the only forum I currently post at, but yeah, I'm pretty sure Facebook groups have hurt forums of all types. Even I belong to a couple groups. It's not my preference, but I think part of the appeal for others is the having everything in one place aspect.

I only post here as well. I'm a member of several Facebook groups, but I hate the setup. The other forums just seem dead. I'm very happy with how busy TE has been recently. Here's to hoping it continues for a long time!emoticon

Can't comment on sites like FB etc as didn't do any social media before imdb & now just here n THB, spend too much time on both as it is! TE seems to be more than just a message board tho, don't know how many of the other sites you can share music videos, art pics, short films, copraphagic photographs etc etc

You've also got a decent, ever growing library of movies n TV with additional fun shit like top n bottom 100 & comprehensive n entertaining reviews by Troma, Ballz & others. All manner of diverse topics from serious political posts to ridiculous masturbating records, games, trivia, news n so on.

Speaking of news, just tried to add this link https://horrornews.net/ but 'unauthorized access'. it's just another genre film news n reviews site, but maybe worth adding.

Guess the tricky part is getting new peeps here long enough to appreciate all the different features here...

The Movie Database https://www.themoviedb.org has forums similar to what there was at IMDB. There's no genre specific forums yet, but there are movie and cast and crew forums. Unfortunately they aren't nearly as active as the IMDB boards, at the moment.

At the moment I'm only posting here and on thb. Imdb2 was fun for a while but the topics get boring and the traffic has been decreasing.Guess the trolling is setting in there. While I like this board there just aren't many topics here that interest me. And if I post a topic and don't get much feedback I don't feel like putting much more effort in it next time.
I hope either moviechat or tmdb can offer the diversity I'm seeking for in the long haul. For now I'm just using thb for the challenge, shoutbox and check TE once a day.

As Foz kindly pointed out, there are lots of things to do on TE. I'm confused as to how you can say nothing interests you on here. I'm also confused as to why if you are so bored by this site, why did you keep asking to come back? TE has lots of interesting posts, by the awesome people on here. It's busier than the other message boards, and has very nice people. To say their posts are uninteresting (which you basically said) is a bit rude to the people who contribute to this site.

I read and comment on the metal blog Toilet ov Hell and spend a lot of time mucking around in its Facebook group. Also read/occasionally comment on Taste of Cinema, though its quality is wildly variable. I can see myself haunting here but don't really fancy getting too deep into forumland because it distracts me from just watching and enjoying films, and I've had too many negative experiences.

I recently started lurking previously.tv

Just checked and there are a lot of shows (no movies) each with their own "board". Its not just current shows but old ones too. But I've only been lurking My 600lb. Life and Face Off. I'll probably join soon. The forums I wanted to join the most, I did right before IMDB went tits up.

Pretty much this one only emoticon Facebook has been grating more and more for me to the point I eventually thought it's not worth the hassle. Haven't been on since and I've tried other forums/boards but always found the traffic depletes too quickly so topics fizzle out too soon for my liking.

Sure TE has its quiet spells but I like the range of topics, I like the fact you can say ANYTHING without being reported incessantly and thus far everyone's been nothing but nice/respectful so I'm quite happy hanging around here emoticon

I could rant on why I'm not fond of the other boards, but it's mainly due to the censorship, and people getting carried away with moderating stuff. Another reason I don't like facebook and the like is because people always leave such short, dimwitted responses.

I still wish some of the old board regulars would give this place a fair chance. Some of them registered back when the place was ugly as fuck, so I'm sure they would be a lot happier here now if they actually tried it out. It's come a long way, and has more functionality than a lot of other forums out there.

And of course, sometimes, the freedom of speech here is what turned a few people off. I still have no fucking clue why certain people were being so pissy about some political talk, but they made a conscious choice to get offended and not explain why, so yeah... the freedom has its ups and downs. emoticon

Some mooned over to ICM forums. I find these rather boring and quite high brow and there aren't genre boards like the old imdb. And others like psychotronicbeatnik (and I think peeptoad and perhaps Smerd too) use it for the challenges. There is lot of challenges there actually too many.
For me TE and moviemeter.nl are enough. there is a few members I would love to bring over but not sure if they like TE's format but I can always try.

What about the format do you think they wouldn't like? I'm an avid fan of nested comments, because you actually know who's replying to who. Some people are deadset on their ways though, and I can understand it. Some people like it viewed in flat, threaded, etc. If it's something easy like that, I can always make a skin for it, like I did for tedb. I even thought about snagging the look of zed's now defunct site and making a skin for that, but I didn't have enough sentimental attachment towards that place to maintain the desire.

It's a shame that beatnik, peeps, and smerd runoft, but maybe they'll get bored eventually and come back on here. I took a look at ICM and it ain't pretty. A generic forum template of a website, and I can't seem to figure out what "ICM" actually stands for.

I have trouble keeping up with just 1 challenge a month, so anymore than that is pushing it. I liked having 2 challenges last month, but it does offset your focus. I'm a regular guy, so I have work and other errands in life. Can't keep up with entertainment as much as want to.

There is definitely some people who might be interested if I tell them this place isn't that strict on swear words, that you can talk abot pretty much everything and especially horror. Since I mostly do horror related games and challenges on moviemeter the horror fans are the ones I'm in touch with most. I'm not sure how easy it is for them to switch between mother tongue Dutch and English. Most however I think can watch English movies without subs so yeah that is not going to be a problem.

Moviemeter does not have the nested comments, however when you get quoted or tagged by someone you do get a notification (much like here when someone responds to your comment). I think nested comments would not work well there because certainly game topics could get very long with dozens of pages as they often consist of short replies. Also after 24 hours (I think) you cannot delete or alter your comments any more unless you ask a moderator to do so. This means that when doing a challenge you have to make a new post for each day you register movies and not like here where you claim a spot and alter it as you progress. And even though I prefer to have everything in 1 comment, new posts allow for people to do a review. But well there is also separate movie pages where this can be done. The reasons I organise those challenges is more to get in touch with fellow horror fans, discussions, giving and receiving recommendations. Yeah there is some general horror topic but it's not really active (of course with horror related games who needs it). There is quite some sections and even a genre section but this section isn't further divided so feels more like a general movie discussion board. I'm just not interested in most of the non-horror topics (which is like 99% of them lol) and people have a tendency to post lists (boooring) and there is I believe an annual top 1000 to which the users can contribute. I just read a few comments, the pseudo intellectual talk it triggers yuck.

Also the moderators are not exactly impartial, definitely have their favorite users who they support and defend. There is actually a few borderline trolls but because their arguments or tastes are cool with some others well they do have unwritten privileges.

ICM is I check movies basically started out as a site with a movie database and you can check the movies you have seen. That is the main reason I registered there. I registered at the board too but well it's as you said it's so generic and the topics well yeah boring. So I just use it to check of movies. And for creating (watch)lists I use letterboxd, nice format it has.

So yes even with low traffic I prefer TE, it's just more relaxed not so much restricted by rules like the other places. On moviemeter you need to check if there is already an existing topic, always need to be careful not posting links to watch or download movies freely.

Same with me I have also given up on the fb groups 1 the format isn't really that handy 2 some have too many topics and often about the same (there is a search function but most are just too lazy to use it) 3 with others it's the opposite, hardly any topics 4 many reactions are like/dislike so no real discussions so what is the point
My last involvement was in a fb grop doing the October horror challenge which had a few of the old imdb visitors like Hey Sweden. And even though it was perfectly possible to keep your progress in the same topic/post quite some people made a new topic for every movie they watched, crazy and I pitied the one having to make up the results in the end.

Completely agree with you there! The FB groups are annoying as hell. No actual conversations and too many people in them. It's always things like "the item to your left is your weapon in a zombie apocalypse". On the off chance, there is an interesting topic it immediately gets buried under worthless garbage.

So sick of seeing that shit. Or a pic of someone looking confused or disgusted with the words "Your face when someone says they don't like Horror movies". Derherher cuz we love Horror movies! Get it?

There are an abundance of memes on facebook, and while some of them can be quite funny, most of them aren't. It's all about keeping people interested, right? Why do people post some of the shit they do then? Nobody wants to hear about your boring day, or your cat, or whatever it is. People only want to talk about themselves on facebook, where message boards are here more for actual discussion. A dying concept these days, I suppose...
