Orphan 2009

Oct 2023
I've avoided this one for years because it sounded stupid. It ended up being pretty good. That orphan is one crazy little bitch. You think she's cold and calculating, but after a while, she starts getting sloppy. She definitely puts adoptive mom Vera Farmiga in a pickle by making her look crazy. And this movie is cruel to children, which is always ballsy.

I hear the recent prequel is stupid. My guess is the actress needed to milk this character for all her worth. I'll watch it soon. I guess prequels made many years later are the new thing, when filmmakers regret killing off a character that could've generated more profit.

I really liked this one. And didn't think the prequel was stupid at all. In fact, it has a pretty cool twist that makes it very different from the first one. Also interesting seeing the now adult actress playing an even younger version of the character. She's obviously older as CGI can only do so much but it's convincing enough.

I like it too (the first one, I still haven't seen the second one). The sudden reveal of the evil girl's secret is really hard hitting, like getting punched in the stomach. It makes so many little moments suddenly make so much more sense. I also like her demented paintings that she makes.

One interesting bit of trivia I remember about this: remember the hot woman who outrageously hits on the husband, at that park? She doesn't say anything out loud, but she makes it very clear that she is interested in him, and doesn't care that he is married. I googled her, of course, ha ha. The actress's name is Lorry Ayers. She was the same woman who played the version of Alessa in the hospital bed, in Silent Hill. The one who comes up from the dark dimension, or Hell, or wherever she comes from, at the end, with all the extremely long coils of barbed wire that snake out and kill the cult members.

I think it's a really good film. I've rewatched it a few times throughout the years. The prequel was ok I guess...I didn't love it but it's probably better than a lot of horror films released in the past 3 years.

Yes its a good film, I've been trying to download the torrent prequel for the last 3 months but its only at 20%. I think this was based on a true tale, which has been in the news a bit recently (though its old news)

I believe the true story actually happened AFTER the movie. Life imitating art.
