This summer sucks. No rain and it's hot as hell. I need the autumn months to cool us off a bit, and for the first time in ages, I'm actually off work on Halloween. I always tell myself I want to decorate a lot and do fun stuff for Halloween, but I underestimate my own laziness. About the best I can do is overload my brain with horror for the October Challenge, which is generally good enough.

I do feel that for someone who loves horror and Halloween as much as I do, I don't make enough of a fuss about it.

Is all it has done this summer is rain where I am. Last year we had a huge drought for most of the summer. This year it pours out every other day.

I am the same way about Halloween. I always want to do more and have visions of elaborate decorations but it never comes to fruition.

It's the opposite here. Haven't had any rain. Last year was both the dryest and the wettest summer. Drought for the whole season until the end, when we got massive flooding. I just want a single day of rain!

I've been a slacker for Halloween in the last decade or so but that ends now. Since I have the day off, I'm going all out. I'm going to get decorations and do stuff! More on that later, when I figure out exactly what I ought to do.

This summer has not been good. Some of the rampaging wildfires in Canada are getting close to the beautiful town of Kelowna, where they filmed Fido. Watch Fido again sometime, the scenery is just incredible... Anyway, the fires are a little south of there right now, in some town called Osoyoos, but apparently they can smell the smoke in Kelowna.

It's still raining here. Rained all summer and now continuing into the fall. I think I read something where there was only 2 weekends all summer that had no rain at all.

We finally started getting rain here in the past few weeks. Went from everything being dead to turning green pretty quick. Temps started getting a lot better too.

Speaking of Halloween, recently I was thinking that in Terrifier 2, Art the Clown might have borrowed a few traits from Sam, from Trick 'r Treat. Specifically in the trick or treating scenes. When he is trick or treating himself, he seems to think that Allie is breaking some kind of ancient, time-honored tradition when she fails to give him any candy. He gets back at her, as you might just possibly recall....

Also, later on, when he is handing out candy to trick or treaters at that same house, out of Allie's mom's severed and hollowed out head, he seems to get quite annoyed when one of the kids tries to grab more than one piece of candy. It just felt like he was upholding the traditions of Halloween. Maybe, if there could be one thing that he holds to be sacred, it might be the traditions of Halloween.

Trick or treating traditions are important! For some reason. Since I'm actually free for the first Halloween in a decade, I might join the nephews this year and dress up. Then I can gauge how well these traditions are upheld.

My local CVS is getting pretty far along, in its transition from carrying summer crap to Halloween things. I am seeing lots of orange and black bags of candy there, and various plastic skulls, ghosts, etc. Today I actually even saw some Thanksgiving stuff, God help me. It was some kind of plastic turkey thing. They are still carrying some summer toys for little kids, though.

My work got a lot of candy in, but that doesn't interest me. I can only eat so much sugar. October is definitely a dentist's favorite holiday. While they do have some seasonal stuff, I saw some Thanksgiving pumpkin decor and that pissed me right off. Might as well put some Christmas stuff out. I figure with how much they jump the gun on that season, they might as well have the Christmas isle up year round.

We're in the 2nd or 3rd year of drought, water stinks coming out of the tap from the chlorine.
https://smartwatermagazine.com/news/smart-water-magazine/barcelona-relies-desalination-face-drought
In saying that rain is forecast tomorrow, they originally forecast 50mm, Im like yeah right, thats not gonna happen, now they say about 8mm which will still be a lot

They want to keep temperature rises to under 1.5c globally

here in spain its already gone up 3.5c in the last 52 years
https://www.upc.edu/en/press-room/news/the-number-of-summer-days-in-spain-has-increased-from-90-to-145-in-the-last-50-years-according-to-a-study-by-the-upc
They don't celebrate halloween here (well a tiny bit)

Ha we've had 20mm of rain overnight and its still drizzling. I've been here over 4.5 years and I've never seen it rain like this, this could be my first rainy day in barcelona. Theres forecast for maybe 10-15mm more today. I don't know if its enuf to break the drought but its great. windows open wide, its only 25.3c inside the house, bloody nice. Im actually wearing a t-shirt

How do you know you have Halloween off this far in advance? I'm with you on the rain, it's probably rained twice all summer. If we could at least go down to the 90s, that'd be great. đŸĨĩ

My off-days are always the same, Tuesday and Wednesday. Which means I'll have next year off too, unless I quit or get fired before then.

My area actually got rain today! A fair amount, too. Brought the temps down. Barely. If there's anything this summer taught me, it's that 80 degrees ain't so bad after all.

One of the things I like a lot about this time of year, is that if you channel surf, a whole bunch of channels are showing some kind of pleasant surprise. Around now, they all start showing some kind of horror, more and more and more and more. It has barely even started yet, but it is already noticeable. Over the next couple weeks, we get a tsunami of horror, on every channel, showing films from many decades, many directors, many franchises, etc. Good stuff.

I don't watch network TV much, but I do notice horror gets a spotlight on streaming services. And not only are stores selling Halloween decor, but horror movies as well. Too bad all the titles they're selling are the same ones I've had on dvd for decades, in minor re-release packaging. But it's the thought that counts, I guess.
