It took 12 years for the second movie to come out. Then it took 16 years after that for the third movie to come out. Obviously, it faced a lot of difficulty getting off the ground, but something finally clicked in the 2020s and here we are, almost 30 years into Kevin Smith's filmmaking career. If you didn't already know, this movie stems from a very personal experience from the director, and this whole movie feels very personal.

I never expected the movie to be so sad. Yeah, there are laughs throughout as Randal essentially remakes the first movie in a very meta way. There's some backstory that might break your heart a bit, as well as an ending that makes this trilogy fairly conclusive. Not exactly what I was expecting, but that doesn't make it any less worthwhile.

Movies about making movies are always fun, especially when you showcase the fuckups, which seems to be the story of Randal'severyone's life here. One of these days, I'm going to get a heart attack and confront my life goals and finally decide to make a moviejerk off even more. Solid end to a fun series.

I thought it was ok, definitely the least fun of the 3. Worth the watch but not something I'd rewatch like the first 2.

From what I've heard, this was not the original Clerks III Smith wanted to make. I believe he wrote an entirely new script after his heart attack. Appparently he made this movie with one person and one person only in mind. Not sure how Randal having a heart attack and randomly deciding to make a movie out of one random day from his early 20's was supposed to appeal to anyone who might have been looking forward to another Clerks movie. It's funny how he acts like he's making a movie about "life back then", but it's just those events from that one day which should mean nothing to him if not being totally forgotten about. The re-creation of Clerks scenes were amusing but there sure was a lot of them, making it a bit of a Silent Night Deadly Night part 2 (lack of ideas). Clerks III wasn't bad, but this heart attack version is significantly less enjoyable than the first 2, imo.

It is a bit odd that all of their best memories of dysfunctional customers came from that one day. There are plenty of great stories they could have retold, like the time they got stuck in the freezer, or the time Randal got put in a slave camp for beating the high score of that old arcade game.

Or they could have taken something from the animated series.

I can not contribute anything to this conversation as I have never seen any of the Clerks movies. I can, however, offer this video of a cat taking a dump.
