M. Night is back, and better than ever! A group of armed assailants intrude upon the cabin of a small family. Now this family is two gay dudes and a little Asian girl, so M. Night is going there. It's all about that inclusion.

So intruders try to convince happy gay family that the world is going to end, but the family refuses to believe it after all the signs and bizarre shit that goes on. Maybe it's a metaphor? Maybe it's bullshit? Well, one thing's for sure. It's not very cool. For an R-rated romp, they try to go that whole less-is-more approach. Bautista is cool. He has weird wrinkles on his head. Skip this movie.

>>It's all about that inclusion.

No its all about money,
They know having this will trigger some people and discuss it, hopefully with some news stories = free publicity.

I watched it not too long ago. Only thing I liked about it was Bautista. I tend to enjoy him in movies, not so much as a wrestler. Overall, I thought it was a bit boring.

Did you watch Old? That one I liked a lot more. Isn't it based off of a comic book (or graphic novel) called Sandcastle?

Old was pretty good. I'm not sure how I feel about the "twist" at the end, but it was disturbing to think about.

I like Bautista too. I am surprised at how good at acting he is, I didn't really expect to see that. Have you seen him in the short prequel films to the 2017 Blade Runner?

Here it is... wait... this is just a little complicated, so please just bear with me. Dave is in the third of the three short films compiled here. So, to just watch his film (which is the whole point) you should start watching at 18:23, and watch to the end, which is to say 24:00. So, that's five and a half minutes out of your life, to watch a great scene... not too bad.

BUT, having said that... you should totally watch the whole thing, right from the beginning, because it's all amazing. The first film in the compilation is done in an anime style, and you can just see all the care and love they put into it. I think it's amazing. Then, the middle of the three films is done with actors, including Jared Leto in his role as Niander "Extremely Creepy Mo-fo" Wallace. If you watch that one right to the end, you'll see that there is a suggestion that his character was never actually blind, but could see the whole time, which of course is creepy as bleep.

Getting back to the film with Dave: one of my ideas about that segment is that it is filmed a little misleadingly, on purpose. I think the first part, where he is looking absolutely terrified as he stands at a sink in front of a mirror and washes his face... I think that part is supposed to have happened AFTER the action in the main part of that segment. It's out of order, sort of like the original Terrifier. Just remember that, and it will make more sense. I won't give spoilers, but that's just something to bear in mind.

OK, I hope I haven't wrecked it with all the preparatory comments... here it is:

It's based on a novel that features two gay dudes and an adopted Asian daughter so you could say the author was "going there"...

I didn't know Knock at the Cabin was based on a novel. I'd like to read it and see if it's better than the movie.

Mate hollywood like any big industry only cares about cash.
Do you really think the market for gay guys is larger than a traditional family?
Maybe some indie films want to push an agenda, but hollywood films, yeah nah not at all, its a business, first and foremost. They realize by triggering people they get free publicity.

You will notice a lot of films have started including more asian characters in them, why?
Cause the overseas asian market has become big, In fact now I think its a bigger box office than domestic in the US

What I think is funny about it is that Hollywood is trying to be inclusive and cater to China viewers so much, but then China goes ahead and bans a lot of releases anyway, on account of gays and trans stuff. Hollywood can't win, and I love it. emoticon

Mate why do you think they're trying to be inclusive?
The data does not back this up.
Esp when you think as well of what stories ppl want to see, its usually about different or exciting things. Noone wants to see a film about a family of 2.4 kids working 40 hours a week bagging groceries, i.e. people don't want to watch mr/mrs average.

no idea what you are on about man, esp = especially (though now I think of it esp = espanya, spain) WFT is ESG? never heard of it (and Im learned, is it (from google) Environmental, social, and corporate governance)

My point is what box is talking about is just complete bollux
This idea what hollywood is full of liberals that are poisoning the minds, preaching an agenda.
The numbers don't back up that assertion.

the reality is ~2/3 of speaking parts in hollywood films are men. Not bad when they make up ~49.48% of the population in the US

<2% of roles are gay characters when in fact they are between 5-10% of the population

ditto any other non white race

This BS that hollywood is anti white men is just that, complete BS, If anything its pro white men
The only thing thats changed is back in the good old days it was 90% of the roles were male roles.
If you long for the good ol' days then theres still placs where you can watch this media representation, saudi arabia, afganistan under the teleban, or italian/turkish TV

Hollywood is about money, always has been and still is today

white males in the USA are not happy cause life aint as easy/good as it was back in after the war years

The decline in US living standards can directly be traced back to reagan, which basically were all about transferring money from the middle class to the top richest people.
Theres 3 big reasons that the reagan adminitsration brought around this change

1. they changed the rules with news reporting (in the old days, news had to have a basis in truth and show both sides of a story)
2. busted unions, see reagan getting tough on the flight controllers, I think that was the flash point

3. business friendly laws at the expense of workers, if he didnt do that shit the average worker in the US would be on $102,000 now instead all this cash went into the shareholders, you would think this would piss people off but because of #1 they get told nah, greed is good, its good to have the CEO earn 500 times your salary becuase to think otherwise is anti american

The funny thing is all this MAGA stuff is often the supporters hold Reagan up as a brilliant president yet he was the chief reason why they are not living their 'house in the suburbs on a single salary' lifestyle

trickle-down-economics/reaganomics

You know what, zed? YOU'RE bullox. I love how you think you're an expert on the USA by posting a bunch of stats you pulled out of a hat.

Hollywood is almost entirely liberal, and they are NOT discrete about it. It's fucking California for fuck's sake. They always want to push some stupid agenda or another. May I point out again that a Disney exec vowed to make 50% of their characters trans/ ethnically diverse? And stupid John Leguizamo recently complained that he wouldn't watch the damn Mario movie because "they fucked up on the inclusion".

Whatever your stats are may apply for the bulk of Hollywood's tenure, but this woke movement is still very recent.

Im bollux! Well back at you with love mate. So there.
Im an expert in american history cause Im an american kiwi
but you can get these stats online, which one do you disagree with?
Maybe ones off by a fraction, but whats not off is, being a white straight male is an advantage to getting work in hollywood (speaking as a white straight 'american' male)

What woke movement?

top 10 box office last year, Now excluding the cartoons,

all apart from black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Water Gate Bridge are predominately white males as stars. And water gate bridge aint even a hollywood film

1 Avatar: The Way of Water CARTOON

2 Top Gun: Maverick WHITE MALE

3 Jurassic World: Dominion this one is a toss up

4 Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness WHITE MALE
5 Minions: The Rise of Gru CARTOON
6 Black Panther: Wakanda Forever BLACK

7 The Batman WHITE MALE
8 Thor: Love and Thunder WHITE MALE
9 Water Gate Bridge CHINESE

10 Puss in Boots: The Last Wish CARTOON

wokeness is not a thing,
Unless its meant to mean, waking up after the brainwashing of just hearing the standard white male perspective always.
FWIW white males are 31% of the american population, so why is hollywood showing films usually from a while male perspective?
Now if you think OK this is just 2022, but Im sure if you go 2012 or 2002 or 1942 its pretty much the same.

Mate Box I love you to bits, like tommix or vince et al I'll take a bullet for ye, but come on get real

Avatar 1&2... There's probably a metaphor for sexual/gender-identities in there somewhere. Can't keep on excluding the blue people from movies, can we? emoticon

Doctor Strange 2: They knew China's stance against homosexual depictions, but they put in a few seconds of lesbians anyway. Got banned in China for it and lost their would-be massive box office.

Black Panther 2 also got itself banned in China for some time. Same for Thor 4 and a few other recent Marvel flicks. If it's all about the money, then I wonder why Disney would be so casual about losing all that money from the second most populated country in the world. That's 1.4 billion potential viewers they're throwing away because they're so altruistic and without agenda.

Wokeness is a thing. Whether it ought to be or not. It's like a whole subculture now, and it's weird. I'm sorry you're having a hard time wrapping your head around the idea, because yes, it is hard to understand, it is stupid, and it should not exist. But it does. I think the confusion lies a lot in the hipocracy and double standards of the movement, and by how suddenly it emerged. It's jarring, to say the least.
