I gave this a whirl, but I'm not caught up on the other shows. Never saw Yellowstone, and I didn't even know there was another prequel show "1883". It's pretty decent so far. What a weird time, though. It's set after the first World War, but there are still new frontiers to conquer.

There are a few threads going on. The main one has Harrison Ford running his land in regard to resources and boundaries, another has a war vet hunting animals in Afirca, and then you have a sadistic catholic school girl situation going on. Wow.

Thoughts on this? Thoughts on the other two shows?

I think the first 2 seasons of Yellowstone are exceptionally great. Season 3 was good and season 4 and now 5 are ok imo. The show has changed since the first 3 seasons, Costner's character has become Governor of Montana so there's a lot more politics now where earlier he was just trying to run and protect his family's ranch. Never seen 1883 and tonight they're showing 1923 after the new ep of Yellowstone premieres.

Halfway through this (assumably) limited series, 4 out of 8 eps, and it's pretty damn good. Helen Mirren will probably win an award for this. Her character is cool. All the characters are good, and the antagonists are even well-rounded. I love a show where you don't know who to root for.

And since I'm not terribly familiar with modern day Yellowstone characters (only a few episodes into season 1) I really don't know how much of it ties together. I'm glad it can stand on its own. With that said, there's one character I definitely don't know how she fits into the story, but her plot is the most captivating. Some native girl who got processed into some sadistic catholic school. Disturbing nunsploitation. No idea where this plot/character is going though, but it's quality. Never have I wanted to beat the heaven out of some nun as much as I do here in 1923.

I watched the 1st 2 eps on Paramount then they stopped airing anymore eps. They did the same with Tulsa King. They did it as teasers to get people to sign up for +. They were both pretty good from what I saw. I don't believe 1883 or 1923 has much to do with Yellowstone at all except they're John Dutton's descendants who owned the ranch before him. I say a little more than halfway through s1 of Yellowstone you get hooked and can't wait for the next ep.

That reaffirms the idea that cable is obsolete. I assume you're talking about "Paramount" the channel? It's funny to think the days of scheduled entertainment are over. We had much less of a choice on what to watch, and now it can be anything at any time. I don't think movies would mean as much to me if I grew up a few years later and this whole idea was always the norm.

I'm about halfway on s1, and I think it's okay at best, not entirely gripping. I'm watching it with my mom though, and she's loving it. I'm sure it'll get better. I think most tv shows hit their stride about 6 episodes in. Otherwise, they're too much of an investment.

I agree, cable is obsolete and the channels are getting worse every month. Every month I say I'm gonna cancel and every month I push it off, guess I'm just stuck in my ways. Yellowstone is worth the investment imo, the 2nd half of the season is quality.
