Tenafly Viper

A limited release wine from La Belle & Charles Co, 1924.

image Tenafly Viper was a notable strong branded wine brewed by La Belle & Chris Co, boasting a high (30%) alcohol proof value.

Tenafly Viper was originally released in a small vintage run in 1924, in Manhattan, and was an unsuccessful seller. Poor sales led to a recall of the product, which culminated in the liquidation of La Belle & Chris Co. After consideration of units sold and the recalled amount, a single case was left unaccounted for. The production occurring during the height of the prohibition era suggests to historians that the outstanding case was hidden in the Manhattan area by racketeers, and its location has remained a mystery.

Tenafly Viper was notable for it's strength and unique aftertaste. Hearsay also attributed unusual side effects to consumption of the drink.

It is expected that the strength of any unopened bottles of Tenafly Viper may have increased in potency in the intervening years.
