Trash Epics

An experimental forum website operated by a weird cult of b-movie fanatics.

https://trashepics.com is an experimental social network and forum, as well as a canvas for any artistic endeavors of its webmaster, @Renzo_Capetto. The site includes posts, comments, file uploads, shoutboxes, and a wiki. Moderators of the site don't intend to ever moderate, as the site's staff does not believe in censorship. The site gets aimless at times, so suggestions and feedback are always welcome.

As a guest viewing the website, a visitor can post anonymously on the public shoutbox. This feature is intended for non-users to submit questions, comments, and suggestions anonymously. No one ever uses it though, even though we're desperate for feedback!

With a registered account, a logged in user can post blogs, message board topics, private messages, comments, and shouts, as well as upload and edit files directly to the site. The webmaster is inclined to help users get the most out of their Trash Epics experience, and wants to code for you. Anything to get more traffic, right?

Development

In 1998, trashepics.com founder David Turner developed an erotic love affair with the Halloween film franchise, which had just announced a new sequel in the works--one that would go back to the basics, and keep things simple. Obsessing over the strange continuity of this slasher series would stimulate David to visualize the inbetweens of this ongoing narrative, which would gradually grow into a general horror film obsession in itself.

David was also a computer RPG nerd, with newfound internet access. As an introverted 10-year-old with too much time on his hands, David studied css, html, and javascript coding through Halloween fan sites on the now defunct free web-hosting sites likes geocities, angelfire, and tripod. The internet was a new frontier, where everyone would post good and shitty web pages alike. It could be very artistic when done right, but it rarely ever was.

With the release of another sequel to the Halloween franchise in 2002, David became disillusioned with the franchise he had once loved so much--embarrassed to call himself a fan after the travesty that was Halloween: Resurrection. Ironic title, isn't it? Followed by a lack of quality D&D video games, David got bored and never pursued web coding any further. In high school, he took computer classes that covered subjects he already knew everything about. That way, he wouldn't have to learn anything new, and could just play emulator games the whole time.

Several years passed before David would regain interest in web design. Annoyed at the lack of nested forum systems, David began began learning the fundamentals of server-side coding through online tutorials. In 2009, the initial self-coded (from scratch) template pages for a nested forum system began, using WAMP (Windows Apache MySQL PHP) as a local test server. However, since this forum had no reason to exist, its release to the public was never intended.

In the Summer of 2013, a casual hobby turned into an epiphany as unemployed David and his @Der_Tables began a habitual process of brainstorming that involved a whole lot of bud, booze, energy drinks, pizza, "Dark Shadows", coding, "Trailer Park Boys", hanging out with the highly dysfunctional family, and the greatest film of 2012... Spring Breakers. It's with this film that Trash Epics found the courage to exist. The site went live on March 13th, 2014.

The Dirty Soap

The site was developed entirely by a poor white trash idiot with delusions of grandeur. Educated by retro horror films, David aspires to write, direct, film, score, and star in an ongoing series of super low-budget horror soap opera episodes, in the comfort of what's to be his ideal homestead and stage for the series.

The "Dirty Soap" is to be the trash epic of our fair production company, inspired by shows like "Dark Shadows", "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia", and "Trailer Park Boys", and directors like Frank Henenlotter, Harmony Korine, Herschell Gordon Lewis, Jim Van Bebber, John Waters, Lloyd Kaufman, and Russ Meyer. Awesome mix, right? However, it may all mix together into a Chris Seaver movie, but let's hope for the best.

The dirty soap consists of dozens of isolated, weird horror stories written by David over the years, arranged into an ongoing narrative and episodic collage of no/low-budget seasonal monster storylines. The series is in development hell, with David trying to figure out a get rich quick scheme so he can buy some cheap Texas land to build "Gutterland", the future farmland home and studio filming location for the eventual dirty soap.

Gutterland

With a little bit of land and some money, all of the "sets" would double as actual simple businesses, operated on trashepics.com's web site. Depending on the layout, the ideal Gutterland would include the following sets/businesses on the property to use for filming and/or profit:

Drive-In Theater? - To screen double features of 70s exploitation classics. It would be easy to throw in concessions, but rather than a simple concession stand...
Drive-In Diner / Restaurant? - Where patrons can buy popcorn, pizza, candy, drinks, and whatever else we're selling.
Arcade, Bowling Alley, Disco Roller Rink, and Pool Hall? - An arcade filled with crappy Trash Epics games and disco balls?! Hell yes!
Studio? - Share the wealth. With enough set pieces, it would be easy to build a production company to help low-budget independent films in any way. An indoor set with props, costumes, and gallons of fake blood is fun for the whole family.

With enough land, it would be easy to earn a living by renting the space out.

Farm? - Because we need chickens in every scene, and goats in the satanic ones.
Trailer Park? - Because it wouldn't be gutterland without one.
Motel? - Because we all go a little mad sometimes.
Camp Site? - Because if the shoe fits, build a haunted camp site!

Help

Do you have an extra million dollars laying around that you don't want anymore? Because here at Trash Epics, we can turn your million dollars into a haunted farmland trailer-park drive-in theater studio motel restaurant hippie commune arcade bowling-alley disco hangout bar camp tv-show. Yes, that's a lot of shit, but we're more efficient than Hollywood. It doesn't cost us one hundred million dollars to make our dirty soap.

Help us create Gutterland. Help us make the Trash Epic.
