I thought about making a similar post but could only remember you and Shaza liking the show..
I thought the 2nd episode was really good (for an early episode). It seems to be setting everything up nicely for some big confrontations to come, although they didn't need to spell out so obviously to the audience that Dany and Jon Snow should meet up.
Euron Greyjoy is a bit of an OTT new villain, but I like how he came across as a sort of cross between Jack Sparrow and Freddy Kruger with that sadistic glee on his face and his wise-cracking during that battle scene..
The only minor quibble I have is distances and how some characters seem to get to a place very quickly (i.e. Jorah to the Citadel, after he was with Dany in the last season). It's a bit like the series 24 where Los Angeles appears to be the size of a small town because it only takes 10 minutes to get anywhere..
Loved the opening of the 1st ep with The Freys...the battle of the Iron Isles was fucking awesome for a 2nd ep. I suspect there will be no subpar/filler eps the rest of the show due to them shortening the last 2 seasons.
I think the sheer scale of the production now doesn't allow for more episodes in a single season. Consider that something like Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy took about 3 years to film, and although it doesn't have as much CGI, Game of Thrones is almost equally as cinematic in it's scope..
But yeah I would have liked to have seen things wrapped up this season. I've read that we might have to wait even longer for the last season (2019)..
What did you think of the last episode? Loved that end scene with Olenna Tyrell and her reveal to Jaime and the meeting between Dany and Jon did not disappoint with him refusing the bend the knee..
I think this season gets better with each episode. Tyrion and Jon Snow crossing paths again was cool. I always figured Snow and Dany would fall in love before the show ends. Naturally, it begins with a little rivalry. He is so much more likable than her, it isn't even funny. Maybe she'll end up turning evil and killing him in the end. Wouldn't mind that.
I liked the idea of her being the villain in the end. She is more tyranical for sure. It can't possibly end up with them both ruling and living happily ever after. Maybe she will kill Jon and someone ends up killing her in the end, with Tyrion sitting on the Iron throne. An ending like that would seem apt.
As impractical as Tyrion ending up with the throne may be, that's probably the most feel good ending they could come up with, and I doubt many people would be dissappointed, but I just see him merely having a very happy ending. Either the newly turned evil Dany gets killed and Jon rules, or newly turned evil Dany kills Jon and rules. I feel like this whole thing has just been Dany finding her inner evil. After White Walkers go down, that should be the last step before the end, imo.
I agree. After the White Walkers are defeated, something will happen that will make Jon doubt Dany as ruler and they will turn on each other, and as you say it may go either way. I just can't see Dany on the throne personally, even if the story went down the dark ending route. It will be bittersweet, a bit like the show: Jon and Dany both die and Tyrion ends up on the throne. There were even rumours/theories at one point that Jon somehow joins the While Walkers to defeat Dany, but that would be a completely different route.
One thing is for certain though. Dany and Jon will fuck this season .
Here's my prediction. Jon and Dany will have a a bit of a rivalry which might get a little out of hand. One of them is close to death, the other one realizes they've fallen for them. So, they join forces and ultimately become the first king and queen that are equals. But hopefully, that won't happen.
I also predict the fucking will be put off until next season.
Did you see the latest trailer for episode 5. Dany: "Bend the knee and join me. Or refuse and die".. Look at Tyrion's face. She is definitely going in the direction we are predicting.. This whole "bend the knee" thing is proving she is practically becoming a tyrant.
I heard HBO got hacked on Thursday and they got Sundays ep, my buddy said its a great ep and had the link for it but I like my Sunday nite GOT ritual so I passed and told him not to spoil it for me. Only show IMO that gets better every single season.
Only show IMO that gets better every single season.
I think Seasons 4 and 6 were great, but season 5 is not as good as 1 or 3 but yeah overall it does get better. Season 2 is probably the weakest, albeit still better than most seasons of other shows.
Every episode from now on until the very end should be great.
