I feel like this will be a nice change of pace from the usual challenges, at least for me. I don't watch animated stuff often. Not sure what I'll even watch. Might end up just selecting a couple shows to focus on for the month.

Nah, don't got many animated horror recs. I don't think that's a genre/mash that does anything for me. I thought El Superbeasto was alright, but still kinda dumb overall.

I've seen Watership Down, but you reminded me of another animated movie I've not seen from the same director that apparently also upsets people for involving animals in a dark situation: The Plague Dogs.

I agree, Akira's great and I recall it featuring a lot of violence. Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend sounds the most like it'd be up my alley. Not just because of the hentai either...

A great way to start off this challenge, since I'm otherwise drawing a blank on what to watch.

Jungle Jitters (1938). Considered racist. Also features hints of cannibalism.



Tokio Jokio (1943). Anti-Japanese WWII propaganda.

I will probably revisit Heavy Metal 2000 at some point this month to see if it is any better than I remember it. Maybe it really sucked. Maybe I was just expecting something more like the orginal.

I am also going to see if I can a subtitled version of Space Battleship Yamato. I've seen the first two Star Blazers, Quest for Iscandar and Comet Empire, but never the orginal, Japanese uncut version.

So far I have noticed very few changes in the first three episodes:

1) In episode 1. US - Wildstar's brother disobeyed Captain Avatar's order to save Captain Avatar's ship. Japan - Wildstar's brother disobeyed Captain Avatar's order because he didn't want the dishonor of retreat. A little more carnage in the Japanese version but not much. You see people float out of downed ships.

2) The Japanese version gets into the WWII back story of the Yamato. This is excluded in the American version.

3) In episode 3 - The robot is a pervert. He lifted up Nova's skirt. His perverted actions are excluded in the American version.
Overall, I am disappointed so far that there isn’t more profound differences.

I find it weird that most of the main characters look white instead of Asian. The women are pretty, blonde haired girls with long hair. It seems like they should be Asian since it was made in Japan.

I know I wont be watching it. It just wasn't very good. They re-use a lot of their old material, and at this point, we just want to see them again. I heard that Chong isn't up for too much action (ie another movie), citing health problems as a reason, but hell... he could sit on the couch the whole time, and people would love it. Dude just has to be there, in a live action movie. Not this shit.
