Get Out (2017)

Nov 2017 *
Just finished watching Get Out (2017). I did not like this movie at all. I felt it spent the entire runtime making the statement that all white people are racist. Wasnโ€™t even subtle about it.

While I have no doubt there was a 'white people are evil' mindset during the making Get Out, I actually enjoyed the movie's concept by the end. Especially when it's revealed that what those white people are up to goes far beyond just brainwashing. Jordan Peele said he was inspired by The Stepford Wives and I'd say there are some definite similarities. Too bad that's all tainted by Hollywood's political games.

Nope, I did not feel that at all. It's simply just a good premise for a good horror movie. However, I am sure liberal racism does exist in the US and this movie is certainly not afraid to address that.

Really? I actually thought it was the opposite. I felt this movie would be super racist, but I thought it was handled in a way that it didn't bother me at all. It was pretty decent, but in no way as reputable as it was made out to be.

Hollywood was really trying to push the movie, because it's a horror movie that got good reviews, and because it's a black people thing. My theater even re-released it, because Hollywood has its head so far up its ass, they're trying to brainwash us viewers into believing it's a new-age classic, but guess what? It isn't. It's not bad by any means, but it really isn't as great as they insist.

I'll be casually interested in Jordan Peele's next film, but Goddamn... I've seen this movie on some Best-Horror-Movies lists, and that's pushing it!

The whole movie came across to me as very anti caucasian. Even without that, it's WAY overrated. What if it was reversed? Do you think people would have a problem with it? I'm not offended by the movie, it just felt to me to be pushing an agenda. I thought it was a bit boring as well.

I thought it was strongly against the insidious racism of liberals but made no comment on white people as a whole.

I'm white and liberal and think that the film makes a good point before it goes full on horror.

Itโ€™s interesting to know how liberals may feel about it, Iโ€™m more of a Conservative. Iโ€™m not really trying to view it in a political way, but perhaps thatโ€™s impossible to do so. It felt very anti white to me. If the director feels that way thatโ€™s cool. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and opinions. One review I read called it โ€œthe return of the get whitey movieโ€.

I enjoy discussing things like this, and reading everyoneโ€™s opinion. Just want to make it clear that Iโ€™m not trying to offend anyone.

There are no positive white characters in it right? But then, I feel like there are plenty of action or war movies, say, where there are no positive coloured characters. Or, say, there's a good black person against hordes of evil brown people. To me Get Out seemed a lot like some black left wingers I know think about white liberals. It is definitely hyperbolic I think. But makes a fair point. I'd like to see a similar film dealing with white left wingers, who I don't think are innocent (contrasting white supporters of the Maduro regime with Venezuealans who actually suffer it, say), but I think we're a ways from that yet. As a white person in general it didn't bug me. I am sometimes bugged when coloured or left wing people in the media criticise all white people, but Get Out seemed ok to me.

Personally I'm not that in to racial or otherwise "right on" politics in horror films. I love stuff that's psychologically or philosophically thought provoking, but I think that the horror genre is fundamentally limited in its use for really committed, topical stuff. Ultimately horror films are there to horrify, rather than really discuss or analyse.

I liked the movie, but some people kept praising its originality, and some said he started a new subgenre. All I could think was have these people never heard of Stepford Wives? Also I thought the whole tea cup hypnotism thing was silly.

Well hello boys and girls (as VPIR takes off his boots.) Todays word of the day is overrated...can you say "Overrated?" They made this film out to be like it could be Oscar worthy?! Mainstream Hollywood horror has put out nothing more than sub-par barely watchable rubbish for the last 2 years and Get Out was no different other than its ridiculous attempt at its ridiculous agenda...2/5.
Wouldn't ya like to be my neighbor?

I haven't seen it. But I just thought I'd share a peculiar cultural headwear choice I recently noticed. Should preface it's only peculiar to me because I am a YT.

Went to a Hollywood Gaming racino 2 weeks ago. I lost all my money, but it wasn't a total bust; enjoyed a thick, delicious medium rare ribeye and loaded baked potato for $12.99 at the upstairs Skybox sports bar.

Anyway, I observed no less than 4 different black women wearing black or grey shower caps. And they were not together as in a group, like Red Hatters Society or something. It added to my enjoyment of the day. emoticon
