Boring thread, I know, but I think it makes sense to make it today.

You don't have to say why if you don't feel like it.

Mine is Dawn of the Dead (1978) because it's very entertaining, it has great likeable characters, it has some of the most memorable zombies of all time, it has a lot of great gore and the music is awesome. Also it offers everything you could possibly want from a movie: horror obviously, suspense, action, drama, comedy and even romance. I could watch it everyday and never get tired of it. Not only my favorite horror movie, also my favorite movie of any genre. 10/10

Alien. Visually, its creepy and horrifying, yet also beautiful. It's slow paced and incredibly atmospheric, but also delivers some big scares and none of them feel cheap. Very tense and suspenseful. The special effects hold up pretty well for the most part, though it was made in 1979.

And finally, the xenomorph migh be the best movie monster ever created.

Tough call. I usually default with "Halloween". The original classic. It's grounded in reality, and while the reality of it can be kinda dull at times, it's still too tense to take lightly. I'm really glad I was able to see it in theaters last October. Scratched that off my bucket list!

The Blair Witch Project. Perfectly executed found footage horror that beautifully escalates the dread factor without really showing you anything at all. The snippets of information you get from interviews at the start get your imagination churning and reignites your childhood fear of the dark in spectacular fashion.

That's an interesting choice. It wouldn't be on my list of best horror movies, but it is a little underrated. It has a modern day fable kind of quality that's pretty cool.

Alien because it's just my favorite asthetically, character/acting-wise and for a few other reasons. It was also one of the earlier "adult" horror films I watched growing up and my dad's personal fav horror so it has nostalgia attached as well.

Black Christmas(1974) is my favorite horror movie. It used to be Halloween(1978) for a while. I still go back and forth sometimes between the two. Now the why part. I guess to me they are perfect horror movies. Great acting and atmosphere. And both still manage to scare me a little bit.

Demons (1985). I love the whole weirdness of it. Always have to laugh when the helicopter crashes through the roof.

I have to ask, why did the helicopter crash??? Did the possesion spread when the blind guy got out?

I'm not sure lol. I think it's just the only thing they could come up with as an exit for the characters lol. So random, I love it!

It's awesome! Gotta love a movie that has a guy on a motorcycle killing demons with a sword.

Yeah that's probably the best scene. The song during that scene is one of my favorite songs.

Most people think of Demons as just a fun horror movie, but I personally think it's also a pretty scary horror movie. The demons look creepy as fuck! Especially Rosemary (the black woman). I have to admit I often have nightmares where I'm being chased by a bunch of demons from the movie.

I rewatched it a month or so back, and the portion at the cinema between Rosemary first getting infected and everything fully kicking off has some really cool editing. The films reality, its characters and geography, and the film within the film all sort of collapse into each other, itss dizzyingly weird and totally works.

Kill List. No matter how many times I watch it I feel enthralled. I love the genre-mashing, the social realism, the ambiguous horror and the crazy final third.

My top two are King Kong (1933) and Nosferatu (1922). Currently Nosferatu is in my number 2 spot but everytime i watch it I get sucked into its dreamlike world. Then I watch Kong and the big guy stays on top of the heap. I just love that film - hard to explain why. I see its faults but they don't matter. They even enhance the experience of watching it.

Here's my Top Ten:
1) Kong
2) Nosferatu
3) NOTLD (1968)
4) The Thing (1982)
5) Dracula (1931)
6) Frankenstein (1931)
7) The Thing From Another World
8) Psycho (1960)
9) Blood and Black Lace
10) Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)

Glad to see that emoticon here!

Basket Case, mainly cuz I've a hardon for nostalgia, and that's the first Hororr film I remember watching. it also had a big part in molding my taste in horror. I of course don't consider it the best by any means. That honor goes to Night Of The Living Dead (1968)

Same. I can't really explain why. I watched NOTLD hosted by Rob Zombie on SciFi. From my video guidebook I knew Dawn was the sequel, so I asked for them for my birthday the next year.

Me and my mom went to BB and I found the 2 tape set and a surprisingly cheap copy of Night. I didn't know back then that it was public domain. Also didn't know if they'd have Dawn. Just luck that AB had recently released it.

I just clicked with it on first watch.I liked rooting for all 4 characters, even flyboy.(still the best shambling corpse ever) The scenes with the good 'ol boys shooting. zombies out in the country and having a time with Cause I'm A Man playing.

I was never a mallrat but, I loved the idea of holing up in a big secured mall with a few friends. Moreso a late 70s mall than a bland mall of today with no character and ALL the same stores. It really was the perfect place. All that food in the walk-in freezers, the arcade and ice rink.
The gourmet foods, the guns, the furniture. The idea of being in a place you are not supposed to be and having it all for yourself.

The gore was great. Just loved it. Years later someone on IMDB ragged it pointing out the grey paint and orange blood. I honestly never noticed before, you know what I mean, it never took me out if the movie and still doesn't.

The basement scene with the dead gnawing on big bones or wrapped wiggling Flopping and twitching. Except fir that one zombie, they seemed oblivious to Peter and Roger. I find that spooky, but don't know why.

Enough rambling I guess, but lastly, film especially 70s film stock looks so much better than the clean digital look in most cases. All 4 actors had very believable chemistry.
