TV movies nowadays rightly get a bad rap with poor writing, low production values, and intrusive commercial breaks.. However, back in the 1970s, made-for-TV horror movies were a genre unto themselves. Many of those TV movies are still highly watchable, memorable, and have even enjoyed big budget remakes. I seen a lot of good TV horror movies over the past couple of years so here is what I really liked:

Don't Go to Sleep 1982
The Demon Murder Case 1983
The Haunted 1991
The Woman in Black 1989
Salem's Lot 1979
Count Dracula 1977
House Of Lost Souls 1989
No Place to Hide 1981
Desire: The Vampire 1982
When Michael Calls 1972
Scream, Pretty Peggy 1973
A Taste of Evil 1971
The Sight 2000
The Norliss Tapes 1973
I Can Make You Love Me 1993
The Night Stalker 1972
Grave Halloween 2013
13 Gantry Row 1998
Possessed 2000
The Lottery 1996
Dark Night of the Scarecrow 1981
Vampire 1979
Bay Coven 1987
Sudden Fury 1993
The Covenant 1985
Reflections of Murder 1974
Threads 1984
Black Noon 1971
The Dead Don't Die 1975
Spare Parts 1979
Dead of Night 1977
Satans Triangle 1975
Bram Stoker's Dracula 1974
Blackout 1985
The Night Strangler 1973
Ants 1977
Crowhaven Farm 1970
Satan's School For Girls 1973
Killdozer 1974
Gargoyles 1972
Sometimes They Come Back 1991
Desperation 2006
Grave Secrets: The Legacy of Hilltop Drive 1992
Nightmare on the 13th Floor 1990
A Warning to the Curious 1972
Dream House 1998
Trilogy of Terror 1975
Body Bags 1993
Deep Evil 2004
House of Clocks 1989
House Of Witchcraft 1989
Mania 1986
She Waits 1972
The World Beyond 1978
Night Cries 1978
The Darker Side of Terror 1979
Daughter of the Mind 1969
Sticenik 1973
The Haunting of Sarah Hardy 1989
The Stone Tape 1972
The House That Would Not Die 1970
Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County 1998
Trilogy of Terror II 1996
The Spell 1977
The Night Nurse 1978
The She-Butterfly 1973
Bad Ronald 1974
The Devil's Daughter 1973
The Screaming Woman 1972

There is a modest charm to some tv movies, isn't there? It's like they couldn't get theatrical appeal, so they have to put forth a bit more effort to get recognized. Of course, there are plenty of shitty made-for-tv movies (all of syfy channel), but some of them are legit enough. It makes you wonder what the deciding factor was for these things, and why it chose a tv format.

That's a massive list, and I'm going to add some of those titles when I can. I like to go through and add these things because I get to look through the cast and crew while I do it. It's a good way to find new movies to watch.

Here's a list of our titles:
Horror/TV Movies https://trashepics.com/media/?tags=horror,tv+movie&category=1&sort=10
(or in artwork view https://trashepics.com/media/?tags=horror,tv+movie&category=1&sort=10&limit=25&display=1 )

I guess Stephen King had a few stories that weren't good enough for the big screen. It, Sometimes They Come Back, Carrie '02, Desperation, Tommyknockers, and tons more. I think most of them are pretty good, too.

Dark Night of the Scarecrow is the best one I've seen. No real violence is depicted, but it made up for it with mood. I guess a lot of tv movies have to operate that way, so I ought to watch more of them.

I like the artwork view. There is a lot of good TV movies listed there except for those Sharknado movies!

There certainly is a modest charm to those. Some are very well made that deserve more recognition, for sure. Yeah, Stephen King made a lot of them!

I think you will like a fair few of the movies I listed. Check them out if you can.

Dark Night of the Scarecrow is great and is one of those TV movies that are extremely well made. Even thou there is no real violence is depicted, it works really well.

Damn, one movie that is like goldust is Sommarens tolv mรฅnader (1988).I can't seem to watch it anywhere. Th hunt continues!

That's quite the list, I've only seen a handful of those but being older TV movies there's a good chance a few will be on youtube.

My immediate thoughts were Sommarens, Dark Night & Whistle and I'll Come to You. Lets see what imdb says for horror/TV movie/your rating, leaving out the three above and onesyou've listed, here's a few:

Ghostwatch (1992)
Someone's Watching Me! (1978)
Devil Dog The Hound of Hell (1978)
Death Row (2006)
Shark Attack (1999)
Scream of the Banshee (2011)
The Hound of the Baskervilles (1988)
The Night Stalker (1972)

Sommarens is onyoutube, so if you download a subs file the use youtube converter you should be able to make it happen.

YouTube is great for them. Solid list as usual. What is Dark Night? The Night Stalker (1972) is superb. Someone's Watching Me! (1978) is one I must see. John Carpenter directed it, so it shoud be interesting.

There is no shortage of copies of Sommarens on YT. Unfortunately there is no subs file.

There were a lot of good TV horror movies. More that I liked than not. Some of the ones I really liked at the time and still hold up well now:

Duel
Salem's Lot
The Bermuda Depths
Don't Go to Sleep
Dark Night of the Scarecrow
The Dain Curse (though the third installment is a little slow-going)
The Savage Bees
Mary Jane Harper Cried Last Night
Summer of Fear
When Michael Calls
A Howling in the Woods
Bump in the Night
Bad Ronald
Curse of the Black Widow

I'd love to see cleaned up blu-rays of all of these. I think Salem's Lot of the only one that got a blu-ray release. Many are not even on DVD and a few not even on VHS.

A very fine list, Yakko. Don't Go to Sleep is brilliant and creepy. I will watch Curse of the Black Widow this week. Dan Curtis directed it, so it will be good

Curse of the Black Widow isn't quite as brilliant a movie as the others, but I always include it because it's the movie that got me really interested in horror. It has a good cast (Donna Mills, Tony Franciosa, Patty Duke, Sid Caeser, Vic Morrow, Roz Kelly, June Allyson, and June Lockhart) and good locations, including the same house that was in Tarantulas: The Deadly Cargo, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark and several other TV movies and episodes. Dan Curtis's daughter has a cameo as a gymnastics student. It plays like an episode of Kolchak: The Night Stalker, and I always liked that series.

I agree, Don't Go to Sleep is pretty high on the list.
