Yeah, he's a comedic actor, right? Well, he tried his hand at a serious role in True Detective season 2, and that was alright. He'll try his hand at the gritty crime genre again, and what do we get? Brawl in Cell Block 99!

Now, I'm not one for going into detail about the plots, because that takes away all the fun of the experience. Trying to figure out what's going on, and getting carried away with the ride? Well I tell you, this movie is one hell of a ride! Vince Vaughn carries the movie, and we also get a supporting role by Jennifer Carpenter from 'Dexter', Don Johnson as the evil maximum-security prison warden, Mark Blucas (anybody remember this guy? From Buffy?), and most importantly... Udo Kier, as a creepy old man. YES!

This is a crime movie. It's definitely a prison movie, and there's definitely a brawl in cell block 99. Holy hell, this movie satisfied my cravings for violence, and then some. Vince Vaughn had some surprisingly awesome fight scenes, and some of them are downright nasty. They'll throw in a few loud crunching sounds to emphasize the bones breaking, and that only makes me cringe more.

Oh man... what a movie. Highly recommended.

Between this and Hacksaw Ridge, I'm now far more interested in Vince Vaughn's career. For the first time ever, I'm looking forward to his upcoming movies, which also sound like they're outside of his usual forgettable comedies.

My favorite movie made in 2017, granted I have not seen a lot of them. Easily my favorite Vince Vaughn movie.

I would describe Bradley's fighting style as stomping the shit outta people! emoticon

It's so well acted it really is a drama too. If this was an R, and the "Academy", sheeeeit emoticon, were not a bunch of uptight violence-averse prudes I think Vaughn would be up for best lead actor in a drama, and Don Johnson best supporting actor.

Because it is unrated this fine film won't get a bit of acknowledgement.

I recognized Clark Johnson right away and it was neat him playing an interogating Det. like his old days on "Homicide: Life on the Street".

That one big Mexican thug's voice was fucking ridiculous, he sounded like a cartoon character.

Oh, and I kept thinking, amusingly, That abortion doctor looks so disapointed. And then in the car he said it! emoticon

My heart kind of sank a little when I realized, the same time Bradley had it confirmed, there was no Cristopher Bridge. I knew he was never getting out of there alive.

This is one hell of a good, brutal (and I don't just mean the fight scenes) movie. Everyone should get it watched as soon as possible.

wow. watched it last night with no real knowledge of the plot and was blown away. glad you didnt go into any detail, and in that vein for anyone who hasnt seen it - WARNING mild non specific plot spoilers below.

Vaughn, as everyone has correctly noted, is awesome, not only with the badass violent man on a mission but also the subtler gentle family and church man build up. well, maybe 'gentle' isnt the right word but im glad the director gave us a good hour of character background before we even sniff a cell block.

also love how Zahler took the cannibal lair look from Bone Tomahawk and transformed it into a nightmare prison, he takes the 'split' scene and goes even darker, raw to the bone violence and more than once. jaw dropping.
